I’m running down to the shelter to swap out the beagles and other mutt for 3 large male pitbulls today.

I’ve been wanting to look way cooler and need some protective dogs around for my kids sake!!

Tell your wife and girlfriend, Pab. 3 pitbulls x 3 sizes = 9 sizes larger.

In this house we own pitbulls.
Love is love.
There are no illegal humans.

They’re gonna be so stoked!

Can’t wait to look really cool for the first time ever. Neighbor has this really stupid golden retriever that’s always wagging his tail and pushing his nose thru the fence and I can’t wait until that ****er is practically decapitated by my loving family dogs.

Because he can't catch it. He'll catch that poodle or 85 year old woman.

Not any different than other people's criteria if you think about it.

My dad's got a lab/pit mix. Her coat is more from the lab side and she sheds like crazy. White hairs on everything and they've got to vacuum/sweep multiple times per day to keep the house clean.

If I ever own a dog myself, I'll make sure it isn't a long-haired breed.

Must keep a tidy house and have good personal hygiene. Preferably a workout warrior who’s 6-5 250+. Mental issues welcome. Fits of violent rage encouraged. Ex pro wrestler or football player with CTE would be ideal.

Not knocking the criteria at all. Just found that to be interesting criteria for getting that specific breed.

I get the hair thing completely. We have a purebred Pembroke Welsh Corgi and she is a straight up shedding machine. No matter how much we brush her and furminate her we still get hair everywhere. If we ever get another dog shedding level will play heavily into that decision. No more getting a big time shedder because my girls think her breed is “cute”.

Very much this. Just as some dogs are born shy and timid, some dogs are just going to be naturally aggressive. Through no fault of the owner's. It can be managed, but most dog owners aren't even cognizant enough to recognize it let alone properly manage it.

In the area I live we are insulated from the highs and lows.

Part of the benefit of Ag and Beef based economy.

I have been buying large amounts of equipment from businesses closing down in the bigger cities (mainly OKC and Tulsa). Some guys think the peaks are going to last forever and don't plan ahead. They also have a huge base of cheap labor willing to undercut them to insanely low levels.

Garage sale for the cash flush guys, I guess.

One of the best dogs ive ever been around was an American Pitt. And some of the worst dogs ive ever been around where also Pitts. /shrug

I've owned a red-nose Pitt, she was a total bitch. Hated everyone. Dad picked her up when i was a kid. She wouldn't let me into my own house.

I owned a Pitt/Rot mix. Loved that dog. He was hard to handle though.

Now i got two little dogs. They love kids. They listen. No bad temperaments. More "human like" than the bigger dogs ive had. One of them is basically a cat...but idgaf. Life is easier with them than my Pitt/Rot mutt.

For the record, I would never go out shopping for a specific breed of dog. I was just responding to your question as a neutral.

My criteria for owning a dog would be no small/toy breeds, it'd have to be a short-haired breed, and no breeder/puppy mill types.

I'd 100% go to the pound and with those requirements, I think there's a good chance I'd end up with a pit.

If the owners would be responsible, I would have no issues with them. Too many stories about people being mauled to death.

These idiots down the street from me have a pit bull. I have come across it out wandering around the street in front of their house three times recently. The first time my wife was with me (while walking our own dog) and it charged us. Stopped short when I picked up our dog.

Really pisses me off. It's like, if your ****ing dog gets out multiple times, maybe it's time to do a better job securing your ****ing gate. I guess they want to wait until the dog kills someone so they can do some prison time.

****ing idiots.

I got fascinated by this. Some college nerd did a survey of criminals who were repeat offenders/arrested for breaking and entering. Something like 70% of the respondents said a home having a dog was the biggest reason they'd avoid breaking in, but not because of the type of dog, but because of the noise they make.

Right, hence me saying a deep bark would be a plus..and why I would personally not bother to own a toy breed.

ThaVirus 01-10-2023 03:45 PM

I once had a lab mix. We were told he was a lab/chow mix but I'm thinking he may have had some Newfoundland in him.

He was only 65 pounds but with his bark you'd think he was 10 feet tall. I had friends who would literally refuse to come into my house after hearing him bark. A random burglar would have never bothered.

In the survey the type of bark didn't really seem to make a difference, just noise in general was indicated as a huge problem. But I can get the argument that a deeper bark would travel further.

It's not the dog that bothers would be intruders, it's the dog alerting the residents. The deep bark doesn't matter so much. It's the noise. It gathers attention, alerts residents, neighbors etc.

I'm sure you're right. It's probably just easier to find a home without a pet muddying things up.

I'd still prefer a deeper bark to intimidate just in case someone is feeling bold or has weapons.

My daughter's 4.5 lb pom begs to differ. Little ****er makes more noise than 90% of the dogs I come across. But we love him anyway. :D

Why Not? 01-10-2023 04:11 PM

I also bet that survey was conducted prior to almost everyone having video doorbells and cameras everywhere like so many (me included) do now. I mean, regardless of dog or no dog (we have two that can be surprisingly loud for the fact that anyone could punt them 50 yards), you'd have to be a total moran to break into a house in a neighborhood worth breaking into these days.

I live out in the country. I need a dog with a little deeper bark than normal. I have a Rhodesia Ridgeback mix. She sounds pretty mean and is about 75lbs, but wouldn't hurt anyone. She is strictly a loud deterrent.

I agree 100% with you, my point is that the dog is just a dog. It can't help what it is, the owner absolutely can. So, if you are someone who wants the type of dog that is know for attacking people, you better be able to handle it or the consequences.

You can't blame the rattlesnake that bites someone who gets too close; the snake is just a snake, it's not bad or good.

I can agree with this post. I got a female Doberman when I was in my early 20's. She was such a great dog and I had her for 13 years. I'm not sure I would do that right now in my life because of all the work involved. Def a great breed if you want a security dog but they are still a big dog.

We are now looking into getting a medium sized poodle as they don't shed and will be small-ish dog for our Condo yet just big enough for our son to play with. This breed is hard to find though.

My neighbors pitbull ****ed around and found out a few weeks ago. Bitch though he was going to attack me in my yard. Lucky I only pepper sprayed his ass. Next time that mother ****er going to catch something to end that bullshit.

Two of my dogs are inbred as ****. The father, Spuds, comes from a pure-bred Chihuahua (mother) and pure-bred Australian Shepherd (father). He mated with a female from another litter, Poe. So I have two pure-bred Shepihuahuas, Flash and Andi.

Don't ask me how an Australian Shepherd male ****s a chihuahua, or how male and female inside dogs produced dogs that look like weiner dogs and hounds.

Bear spray would be good for dealing with them.

Generally speaking, dogs are dogs, even pitbulls. And all of them can go rogue. The problem with breeds like pitbulls/similar breeds is that their size and strength make them impossible for you to stop if they decide to go rogue or whatever.

The lady should've had a fight-ender, like a gun or a stilletto to end things if those dogs went nuts. Even pepper-spray might have worked. Might've saved her kids.

9 month old girl killed in dog attack by a dog described as “boxer-hound mix.”

Golfed at Grand Summitt (grandview area) teo Sundays ago. Was in sand trap on 15 with my buddy on the green maybe 6-7’ away. As I began my backswing I could hear something behind me running, like a deer. I turned around and it was a ginormous pit bull. The f*** was IN THE TRAP WITH ME.

I freaked out and held my club up at him. He was snarling like crazy, and walking around us in circles like he was looking for the best angle to attack. He was ar least 75lbs. Eventually after a few minutes of us holding our ground he ran off.

The course is surrounded by low income housing and apartments so the dipshit who owned the menace didn’t know - or didn’t care - he was running loose on the course. (He looked a lot like the photo above)

There was a Reddit thread where people posted pits they’ve killed. It was very inspirational knowing folks are out there taking these worthless animals out

I’m no canine expert, but that supposed “boxer-hound mix” really does not look like any sort of pit bull terrier.

Most pit bulls are not 75 lbs either so you’re probably mistaken on the breed.

First mistake right there was going to Grandview. Not surprised at all by the dog.

A white trash golf course in fly over country with aggressive Pitbull's. Sounds inviting. Don't bring your kids.
