The only part I don’t love about it is the radar. It’s decent but not as good as actual NWS radar.

I miss the old Wunderground maps that showed potential tracks of storms.
Their products are so bad I quit sending data to them.

A good free weather app is hard to find. Most are so bloated with ads or use bad data.

weawow is good. I found a way to change the radar in settings and it’s now as good as NWS.gov. Very nice interface with some interesting photos as a backdrop.

I like it.

Yes sir, this one hit 12:15 Sunday morning (just after midnight) in Tulsa, and there are still 30,000 homes without electricity. We got ours on about 10:30 yesterday morning, and we were lucky not to have any damage. One street over from us, they just cleared the trees off the house today. It hit with over100 mph straight wind, with little spin-ups (F-1s) embedded in the main front. What a week. Estimated 200,000 homes in Tulsa area were without power, with some sustaining major damage. They still don't have an estimate of total damage yet, of course.

We're in Boomtown USA where the largest fireworks show in Kansas is set to begin at 10. Earlier weather reports put off storms here 'til midnight, let's hope that holds. The main concern is getting the huge amount of spectators (estimates are up to 40k) safely back out of town after the show.

Earth's hottest day ever recorded was on July 3, 2023

The hottest day ever on Earth since records began happened on July 3, 2023. The average global temperature reached 62.62 degrees Fahrenheit.

The average global air temperature was recorded two meters above the Earth's surface with the data compiled by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of Maine.

The previous record for the Earth's hottest day was set in July 2022 and in August 2016 when the global temperature reached 62.46 degrees.

The rise in global temperatures is likely due to recent heat waves in the US, Canada and Europe and El Nino. During El Nino conditions sea surface temperatures rise above average in the Pacific Ocean.

NOAA/ Maine global temperature data goes back to 1979, but researchers say these temperature readings are comparable with data that goes back much further. They are confident this is the highest global temperature since instrumental measurements began around the 1850s.

How windy did it get today? Here in Shawnee the wind blew down a few sections of my back fence.

lol local stations are making this sound like an f5 tornado. definitely potent storms, but this is total overkill.

Evergy outage map says 80 to 100 mph. Not sure I believe that, but it was absolutely raining sideways. Lost a small tree along my driveway which blocked the neighbors drive. Power has been out since 345. Fantastic Friday evening.

I thought for sure we'd lose one tree and a couple sections of fence, we're happy, no damage at all. Some neighbors lost some fence and trees, so we feel double-lucky..

Same boat here: sideways trees, limbs down everywhere, power still out with no ETA

Stewie 07-14-2023 09:28 PM

So power for 8 hours. Not sure when power will be restored. My Wen inverter generator is rocking. Keeping food cold/frozen while running a few lights, TV, Internet and wifi.

I need shorter extension cords. :)

California Death Valley suppose to be 130* this weekend. You guys should come visit.

displacedinMN 07-15-2023 08:31 AM

Thursday night we had a whopping 0.04 inches.
I had 0.5 at school but that is 7 miles away. Others to the south had more

Last night-the radar showed it was raining here. But alas, the ground never got wet. So it was evaporating on the way down. Virga. Ugh. Luckily it has been cooler so the grass is responding

Fox 4 kc had a confirmed clocked 80 mph wind gust in Shawnee Ks as the front came through. I had power flicker a few times and pretty high winds. I ordered a bunch of stuff for pickup at Sam's Club at N. Oak in KC North. It was a 7 to 8 am pickup window. I arrived at 7:20 wasn't a car hardly in the lot. The pickup text wasn't on my phone so called the number on the sign at my pickup parking slot nothing just rang. Pretty soon an employee came out the door and told me the power was out and that they are closed. I thought they would have backup power. Sure screwed up my plans to smoke some ribs today.

Limbs are across roads and trees snapped in half 20 feet up from the ground. I usually see the usual culprits such as soft maples and Bradford Pear but these are hardy oaks hackberry and walnut. Power out all around Me like across my street. The outage map shows me in a triangular area surrounded by outage boxes. Im in nice cool tall cotton here but the longer the power is out I may have to hold off the hoards. I am loaded for bear and ready to rumble. Its survival of the fittest in the Northland burbs.
