Summary of what the Chiefs have done this offseason:

Backfield: marginal improvement
replaced Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn with Alex Smith and Chase Daniel

Receiving: marginal improvement
retained Dwayne Bowe, brought in Donnie Avery & Anthony Fasano, released Steve Breaston & Kevin Boss

Offensive line: worsened
retained Albert for one more year, released Eric Winston

Defensive line: no gain
restructured Tyson Jackson, brought on Mike DeVito, let Glenn Dorsey walk

Linebacking corps: no gain
no movement

Secondary: marginal improvement
signed Dunta Robinson & Husain Abdullah

Special teams: no gain
retained Dustin Colquitt

That's a good offseason, all things considered, for two reasons:

1. It had the potential to be disasterous, in losing Bowe and Albert and Colquitt and Dorsey. In reality we only lost one of those guys, and replaced him with the same caliber of player.

2. You don't build through free agency. You make tweaks. Only occasionally do you make an overpriced splash, and you make that splash when you're on the doorstep of competing, which we are not.

That said, we need this to be a strong draft for the Chiefs.

right tackle
inside linebacker
linebacker depth across the board
running back
#2 corner

The list is getting huge, now.

We need a guard as well to replace Lilja right? I also don't think RB is really a huge need...hopefully we can take care of maybe two more of these before draft day...

Sad that you define success by resigning your own young, homegrown players.

That should be a goddamn gimme.

We're basically treading water with the moves that have been made.

Keep the young talent that got us 21 wins in 4 years, and replace the guys we lost with carbon copy replacements.
