The national weather service, which is about the only weather I pay attention to, hasn't budged on their forecast. If anything, it's gotten worse in the past few days.

I think it's pretty clear at this point that we are going to get enough ice to make driving a bit sketchy and hazardous at the least to the point that you will need to drive slowly and carefully and probably not leave the house if you don't need to. Whether or not we get enough so that this leads to broken trees, power outages, and completely undrivable conditions seems to be the main question.

Yup, me too. If you can't trust the government, who can you trust? :)

doesn't the NWS have more to lose if they change it for the better and is wrong? I'm inclined to believe NWS as well but am hoping Lezak is right.

Exactly.

Lezak has some skin in the game.

There's not much "they" to NWS point forecasts. It's a constantly updating set of computer models.

They posted on FB that they are backing off on the amounts for KC:

Freezing rain/drizzle has developed across southern Missouri this morning and should expand north throughout the day. Hazardous travel conditions are possible for areas south of Highway 36 today, particularly during the evening commute. While we have trended ice totals back slightly through Sunday, the same impacts previously mentioned remain possible as a little ice goes a long way. We will provide updates here throughout the weekend to ensure you're kept up to date on the latest as the event unfolds.

Icemehgerrdon in Oklahoma has so far been a huge flop...

As expected with all of these doomsday forcasts...

Snica 01-13-2017 09:33 AM

Thousands of Chiefs fans are going to be pissed they gave up their tickets if this turns into a non-event.

Its raining in Joplin and doesn't look like its going to ever get cold enough for roads to freeze over.

It was 72 degrees here Wednesday and has been warm all week its going to take some time for the ground to get cold enough to ice over and it doesn't look to be cold long enough for that to happen.

I hope the same goes for KC.

Same here. The ground temp is too warm for anything to stick around here. Oh and we went from .75 to 1.25 here last night with chance of certain death to a trace to .25 if lucky...

Sensationalism drives ratings...

I don't fault the NFL. You know the risk as a fan. Either go or don't go. Up to you.

Exactly. And somewhere in a leather filled conference room Big Milk and Big Bread are lighting cigars.

Snica 01-13-2017 09:54 AM

The Weather Channel named this storm not the NWS. Evidently NWS has been trying to get The Weather Channel so stop doing that shit.
