It's a depth move. I don't see the harm.

Dayton is cocky because the previous WE-PIB (worst everyday player in baseball) had a good '11.

So **** those, those, "numbers guys"! Yeah, **** 'em.

#Royals sign utility infielder Yuniesky Betancourt to a one-year deal for 2012. Yuni expected to back up at short, third and second.

He is much like Getz that anything other than his main position he will be worthless in the field. I hate the signing. I would have rather have had anyh number of aging true utility players.

Short is the hardest position on the field to play. Betemit was a borderline butcher at third which is the easiest position to play other than 1B. Betancourt is a certified butcher at short and borderline butcher at second.

We just picked up a solid-stick, no-glove utility player. We didn't give up anything for him. Who cares? He started for us 2 years ago and led us in HRs. He started for the Brewers last year, and they made the playoffs. I'm pretty sure he's more than qualified to fill in for Gio now and then.

Hey guys let's all over react because we signed a utility guy who actually had a pretty good year starting for a playoff team last year to a one year deal to be a utility player. He's better than Getz. He was featured on Webgems plenty flashing some nice glove last season (yes I'm aware those aren't always "normal" plays for him) and he has some power.

We're obviously doomed. We might as well just send Sanchez and Broxton back and let Chen bow out of his new contract and give up on Moose and call Cain "no Melky" and go ahead and see if the Yankees would just like to have Hosmer now so we can avoid him leaving later. Here comes another 100 loss season. We've killed it all now. Tear down The K. We signed a utility type player to be a utility player.

Really guys? C'mon man.

:doh!:

Exactly.

The problem with the Royals isn't that we've had guys like Betancourt and Aviles on our roster. It's that they have been everyday players in the heart of our lineup.

LMAO

Personally, as long as he doesn't start more than one game a week, I'm fine. If it means trading him with Getz, I'm more than fine with that.

Betancourt has 0% chance of playing significant time if we don't sign him to begin with.

eazyb81 12-20-2011 05:15 PM

And you guys are crazy if you don't think he plays much. Since he's already being billed as the Swiss knife of infielders (I didn't know he could play 2B and 3B?), he will be our top backup and get 300 AB on the season.

Chris Getz would be fine with that.

He's not taking ABs from Albert Pujols. He's taking them from Chris Getz. I'm more than okay with that.

If he can hit .260 with 9 HRs and 35 RBIs in those 300 ABs, it's a tremendous signing.

SPchief 12-20-2011 05:32 PM

We have some actuall decent power on our bench now. It's not that big of deal.

If you can play SS and have a decent arm you can play SS and 3RD
