With that in mind, maybe they go big on keeping Santana and bringing in more pitching instead of the big bat, still hoping (incorrectly) that the power from Hosmer, Moose, Butler, and Perez will come in.

If that's the case, I don't think they need to pay up to keep Santana. Just take the draft pick and acquire the next Santana-like pitcher.
