Juice defender works well for me, Battery saving on an Android is based on 3 main things..

Screen Brightness + Screen Timeout(Dim it to save battery)(Set it to no more than a minute)
Data & Wifi (Turn em off when you don't use it) Juice Defender will do this for you
Apps you allow to access the internet at will and refresh themselves.

There has been a noticeable difference on my phone's battery life since I started using JD. This is one app that really does work.

Fooducate for anyone looking for healthier alternatives. Scan the barcode of the item, and it gives you a grade for that product health-wise. Let's say it receives a C+. The app will suggest similar items that received higher grades.

If you don't mind starting your data when you want to do something, the Extreme setting will save you an enormous amount of battery life, if you are a social butterfly and have to get every update on facebook or every email instantly when it comes in there is not much that is going to extend your battery life, I can go all day and still have @ 70% on my HTC Inspire.

Root it and install a custom ROM and Kernel if battery life is important to you.

True, stock apps don't do a damn thing now. Root, grab a kernel, install Battery Calibration & SetCPU, or better than SetCPU, grab System Tuner.

Strongly suggest you check out Amon Ra for your recovery.

The best part is removing the bloatware that bogs the phone, plus with root, you get free tether on Sprint.

What ROM are you running now?

Yeah. Dave isn't much of a sense guy, surprised if he would run anything that isn't aosp.
