Because Chevy didn't make a 327 in '55. The 327 didn't come out until '62, and it wasn't offered in the Bel Air with a four barrel carb 'til 64. However, in 1964, the correct ignition timing would be four degrees before top dead center.

I actually had a customer give me an old dwell meter when I opened the shop. It's in a nice wood box and has the original manual. It has the dwell settings for most cars that had points. Timing settings. Carb settings.

It's a pretty cool old tool. I still have it

When I hear someone refer to a modern device like a dwell meter as old it makes me feel old.

Talk to the service genie, hes the guy in the white shirt. Hes gonna up charge you an extra 30 minutes though. Have a seat in the waiting room and enjoy a nice chai.
