Surprised Carpenter is going tomorrow instead of tonight. Who will start for the Cards in game 7 if it goes that far? Figured Carpenter would be good for three starts (1,4,7) in the series given the extra rest he had before it got going.

I think it would be Lohse

Yes our world series hopes would rely on Lohse

If we get through 5 with 1 run from Jackson, it ain't his fault what happens later.

Big IF.

He's pitching well with a massive zone. It's gonna happen.

Jackson needs to find a way to make it through this inning without damage.

kcpasco 10-23-2011 07:36 PM

Well unless Jackson gets absolutely crushed I think you gotta stay with him. The bullpen needs some rest.

You don't want to pitch guys on three days of rest. Period. If he pitched tonight, he'd be pitching on 3 days of rest, and if he went in Game 7, that would also be on 3 days rest, barring a rainout of game 6 or 7.

What is the point of having an ace then if he is not going to go when you need him too then? Three days rest is not ideal, but it has been done many times. Seems like the Cards are setting themselves up for failure if they do not win the next two games.

Walking Kinsler doesn't help.

Yes, he'd start, but he'd be in until the first sign of trouble, no matter how soon. In a Game 7 you totally blow out your bullpen. Every single guy down there would be available, save for Garcia. Carpenter's side session would be that day, so you could get work from him, probably 25-40 pitches. You'd get everything possible from Rzep, Motte, Dotel, Lynn. I wouldn't worry about who the SP is in that scenario.

He is going to go when we need him, Game 5.We need him every day in reality, but look up the stats of pitchers going on three days of rest. They have an ERA of over 6.00.

If that was going to be the case, I would almost do what Dick Howser did in 85 and pitch Carpenter in games 4 and 7. I don't know, seems to me that if you have Lohse as your game 7 starter you are setting up everyone for heartbreak.

WTF?
We win the next two games there is no failure. We lose tonight we are still in good shape. Best out of 3 with 2 at Bush and 1 start by a fully rested Carp.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-23-2011 07:40 PM

Just a complete dogshit strike zone.

This

While I would absolutely love to win tonight. Tomorrows game is key with our ace on the mound.

We get back to Busch with a 3-2 lead I like our chances a lot.

I can see that. Was more referring to that if they got to game 7 with someone like Lohse as a starter, that they were setting everyone up for heartache.

I would rather have Carpenter on 3 days rest in game 7 than Lohse. Either way is not ideal I suppose.

jd1020 10-23-2011 07:45 PM

I don't like the Cardinals chances if this goes back to Stl with a 3-2 Rangers lead.

BigRedChief 10-23-2011 07:45 PM

we just need one more inning and Scrabble/Dotel and Motte can carry it the rest of the way.

Rain Man 10-23-2011 07:45 PM

What's the score? I'm watching the football game.
