NVM, found it. So the Bengals effectively scored an extra 3rd round pick.

He claimed at #24, which means that 23 teams and the Chiefs, passed on the guy.

The Bengals are desperate for CB help.

That doesn't mean that the kid is automatically a bust

Of course not but plenty of people on this site thought he'd be claim within the top ten.

It wasn't even close.

Definitely will be interesting to see how he does.

I said there'd be teams that questioned it and thought if KC cuts him, then no thanks. Seems to be the case.

BossChief 09-16-2016 07:53 PM

Anybody have any idea how many teams put a claim in for him?

nobody after Cincy put a claim in?

They sometimes say how many total teams put claims in for the player.

I wonder if any of the other playoff teams wanted to claim him.

It's not a good look, regardless of how you rationalize it.

That's a pretty high value asset just set ablaze. Whether it's poor scouting or whether it's worse personal evaluation isn't terribly relevant. There were some good players on the board there (as well as where they originally picked before the trade down left them with Russell as their highest ranked guy). Even if Russell never amounts to anything, you can bet someone they could've taken there would've.

It's a **** up. And when you start to shrug stuff like that off, it gets really cumulative, really quickly.

This had better be a one-off. Dorsey can't go torching assets like this with any frequency. As the core of this team continues to age, they have to backfill with cost-effective players in the middle rounds if they hope to keep their newer, younger core around on their second contracts.

And hey, we don't have to be mad at Roger Goodell anymore, right? Turns out 3rd rounders don't mean enough to get pissed off about if all anyone wants to do is high five Dorsey for shitcanning a 3rd round pick before his first day on the active roster. HIGH FIVE, DORSE!

Are you expecting Dorsey to miss this badly on a consistent basis?

No it doesn't. He obviously has talent. He knows why he got cut. And if it was attitude, running his mouth or locker room presence that can be easily corrected if he has the desire to do so. Sometimes kids need something like this as a wake up call. Too bad this had to happen.
As far as Dorsey, he continually hits homeruns, more than the Royals anyway. Looks like he nailed the later rounds this year other than Hogan.

I finally got through this thread. I've been busy as **** and there has been a LOT of discussion on it.

It is an unequivocally bad thing that we bombed a 3rd rounder. But I also recognize the value of a roster spot if the guy has no chance. We've bombed a lot of third rounders that would have been better off getting the shitcan and dumpster diving for a better player.

Buehler445 09-17-2016 09:17 AM

Here are our last 15 years worth of draft picks. Determine from it what you will, other than Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards was a trash drafter. **** you Squimrin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards.

What I see here is either 1. A crapshoot or 2. A ****ton of missed opportunities. Probably a mixture of both. Bottom line is we've invested a LOT of roster spots in trash, that we may have been better served by cutting bait and looking in the trash heap.

Dorsey
2016 Russell - BOMB
2015 Chris Conley - Starting ATM
2015 Steven Nelson - Getting some PT at nickel
2014 Gaines - Starting ATM
2013 Kelce - BAMF
2013 Davis - ST contributor, has filled in sufficiently
Scott "Francise Killer Pioli
2012 Donald Stephenson - Eratic at best. Needed Replaced. Badly.
2011 Houston - BAMF (I miss you big dog)
2010 Asamoah - Meh at best. Certainly wasn't worth keeping
2010 Moeaki - Pure Trash
2009 Alex Magee - Pure Trash
Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards
2008 Charles - BAMF, but Squirm thought he needed to sit behind 2.8YPC Spitting Larry
2008 Brad Cottam - Pure Trash
2008 DuJuan Morgan - Pure Trash
2007 Tank Tyler - Pure Trash
2006 Brodie Croyle - Pure Trash
Vermiel
2005 Colquitt BAMF but Punter in the third?
2004 Keyaron Fox - Pure Trash
2003 Julian Battle - Pure Trash
2001 Snoop Minnis - Pure Trash
2000 Greg Wesley - Decent

Looks like we nail one every third year so 2017 is next due. Although Dorsey looked good each year til 2016

Buehler445 09-17-2016 09:38 AM

It would be interesting to look through all the teams, but I probably don't know enough about the teams to determine whether the player was good or not. But let's look at the Steelers

These stats look wonky, but I got them from http://www.pro-football-reference.co.../pit/draft.htm

2016 Javon Hargrave DT- at least suited up
2015 Sammie Coates WR - 8 games 3 rec 67 yards
2014 Dri Archer WR - 20 games 7 rec 23 yards - 10 rushing attempts for 43 yards
2013 Markus Wheaton WR - 44 games 4 Rushing attempts for 19 yards 103 catches for 1457 yards 7TD
2012 Sean Spence LB - 31 games, 2 sacks
2011 Curtis Brown - DB - 34 games
2010 Emmanuel Sanders WR - I won't list the stats, but he's ****ing good.
2009 Kraig Urbik T - 85 Games
2009 Mike Wallace WR - I won't list the stats, but he's ****ing good.
2009 Keenan Lewis DB - 83 games
2008 Bruce Davis LB - 22 games
2007 Matt Spaeth TE - 123 games
2006 Willie Reid WR - 7 games 4 rec 54 yards
2005 Trai Essex T - 76 games
2004 Max Starks T - 125 games
2002 Chris Hope DB - 163 games
2000 Kendrick Clancy DT - 109 games

I disagree with some of your assessment. Some of those guys that you called pure trash were good players that just couldn't stay healthy. Such as Brokeaki. Also, I don't see a whole lot of guys that I would have cut this quickly. Croyle, for example, was the highest we've taken a QB in forever. Who knows, if he could have stayed healthy and played for Reid, he may have had a better career.
