Alex Smith had an elite defense in 2011. The year after it was also pretty good yet he was benched in favor of a guy who can't beat out Blaine Gabbert.

Of course, I know Smith fanbois will just turn around and blame the lack of success on receivers and the offensive line.

It's reeeeeeally odd, however, that one guy has played 12 years of pro football and bad receivers and offensive line men have been a constant on all of those teams.

The real issue is defense.. Championship teams have elite defense, regardless of mediocre to great QB play.

What about bad, like we are currently experiencing?

Wait wait wait.....first you say elite now you say top 10?

In spite of how we have played so far, I firmly believe we will be a top 10 D when its all said and done. And guess what? We wont be a SB winner. Far from it.

We can get out next year

I'll have to trot out a 610 standby soundbite:

"If not Alex then who?"

There's nobody worth overpaying to get a few marginal wins over what Smith provides.

Trade for Sam Bradford. This is a copycat league and ALL the teams are doing it!

My opinion is you wouldnt have to overpay a QB who brings to the table what Alex does. Those type of QBs are called journeymen or backups.

Foles is $6 million cheaper and would be the 23rd highest paid QB in 2017. Keep him around next year as insurance why you try to get a rookie QB.

The only reason I'm not all too mad about how this gas all played out it was because it was so predictable.

They're not good enough to win a SB but not talent deficient enough to blow it all up and start over.

Someone will overpay for Foles in FA.

He's on a one year deal here. Someone will undoubtedly offer him more next season than we will.

Doubtful because they take a huge cap hit, although a slight savings.

2018 they save 17 million against the cap by cutting him.

So you know, time for an extension.

Pittsburg is up 22 to 0 and Reid is still calling wide receiver screens. Are you shitting me? When Smith was going downfield, he was connecting... from beginning to end. To Conley, to Maclin, to Kelsey even to Wilson. Why the F Chiefs were still calling these ridiculous f'ng plays horizontally to the line of scrimmage when the medium plays downfield were working so much better - unreal.

Yep, Smith is no coldblooded killer... but Reid is the biggest problem right now

Ummm. You can do what Denver did. Start a guy for extremely cheap because the expensive starter MIGHT barely improve the offense.
