Alex Smith had an elite defense in 2011. The year after it was also pretty good yet he was benched in favor of a guy who can't beat out Blaine Gabbert.
Of course, I know Smith fanbois will just turn around and blame the lack of success on receivers and the offensive line. It's reeeeeeally odd, however, that one guy has played 12 years of pro football and bad receivers and offensive line men have been a constant on all of those teams. |

In spite of how we have played so far, I firmly believe we will be a top 10 D when its all said and done. And guess what? We wont be a SB winner. Far from it. |

"If not Alex then who?" There's nobody worth overpaying to get a few marginal wins over what Smith provides. |

The only reason I'm not all too mad about how this gas all played out it was because it was so predictable.
They're not good enough to win a SB but not talent deficient enough to blow it all up and start over. |

2018 they save 17 million against the cap by cutting him. So you know, time for an extension. |
Pittsburg is up 22 to 0 and Reid is still calling wide receiver screens. Are you shitting me? When Smith was going downfield, he was connecting... from beginning to end. To Conley, to Maclin, to Kelsey even to Wilson. Why the F Chiefs were still calling these ridiculous f'ng plays horizontally to the line of scrimmage when the medium plays downfield were working so much better - unreal.

Ummm. You can do what Denver did. Start a guy for extremely cheap because the expensive starter MIGHT barely improve the offense.
