You have an HOUR to make a pick, so as long as you check in every hour, you'll be fine. And the way the draft is going you don't even need to do that.

If you're not a hardcore football geek you have no business drafting 50+ players. It's not going to appeal to a casual audience.

That makes you a completely different kind of geek.:thumb:

I'm the Seattle Undertakers.

I'm not looking to make any trade offers right now. I just want this thing to move along a little faster.

These teams are really slowing down the process:

Round Rock Tamba Tornado (kcmaxwell) - 1 Veteran pick, ZERO rookie picks
Columbia KC Hood Starz (southkctiger) - ZERO picks so far in either draft
Oklahoma City Outlaws (jreid18) - 2 veteran picks, ZERO rookie picks
Lexington Akitas (tyoung509) - ZERO picks so far in either draft
New Orleans Narcs (JimNasium) - ZERO picks so far in either draft
Anchorage Eskimos (LocoChiefsFan) - ZERO picks so far in either draft

Those just sound like UFL teams.

Impressions after getting familiar with the site:

The concept is great. There is definitely a niche to fill here. I'm not much of a stat geek, but a stat geek is a stat geek is a stat geek. The opportunity to control all the positions on a "fantasy team" should appeal to a group that will utilize this.

It's going to be tough to set up leagues as large as these. You have to rely on everyone in the league to be responsible owners. In league 2, there are 5 teams that haven't made a first round pick. 1/4 of the league bailed before the draft started. IMO, it requires a level of commitment that is tough to give when you don't know if the whole league is willing to do the same.

The UI is tough to deal with. It feels clunky and not efficient. It is almost impossible to keep track of selected and available players without a completely separate system set up beside the monitor. That will probably require a subscription to another site or a commonly prescribed method available to people new to the league if people are paying money to play.

The initial draft process looks daunting, and without having some type of email notification to let you know when you are on the clock, it requires you to log in constantly. Additionally, with no countdown timer on the draft page, you never know how long someone has been on the clock, so logging in doesn't always give you an answer as to how long you have. It's frustrating, and makes it feel like longer than it is.

Watching the activity in League 1 makes me think I just got stuck in the crappy league, which gives me hope for the game, but highlights how little fun this has been so far.

I'm sticking it out in the hopes that I can help with the beta testing by providing data and feedback, but otherwise I would have already pulled the plug. The combination of perceived lack of interest in the league and amount of work required to set it up without assurance that it's "not for nothing" would be the driving factor(s).

Thanks for the great feedback.

As I've mentioned before, the UI worked much smoother in development than in production. We have definite plans to implement some AJAX code that won't require the page to reload every time. That might take a couple weeks to deliver, since I'm just learning on the fly.

I can probably finish email notification tonight. I thought I would have it done sooner, but all the people dropping has required a lot of DB admin, rather than programming. I can probably do a countdown timer or something similar in the next couple of days.

Owner dropouts is a huge issue and we've known that even in the conceptual stage. We are playing with the concept of a different draft format (see related poll) that would be faster and might get people hooked faster. Another concept might be a free version to get the feel of the game with the pay version being people that are committed enough to lay down a few dollars. In any event, our target audience is probably 1/5 to 1/10 the of the total fantasy market.

We have a new owner for Chula Vista, but he's had problems logging in. I think I have fixed it, or can fix it in the next attempt.

We are recruiting for Springfield. If anyone wants to run that team, drop me a PM.

Portland has had some activity, but has lately dropped off.

I think there are enough of paying attention that we could divvy the teams who aren't drafting and pick for them in good faith. Is that possible? If so, I'd volunteer. Not sure that solves the problem though because we need these owners to be active longer than the draft<br />

They won't be rushing the passer when your offense scores 10 points.

You don't need a billion WR's when you have a good QB and a great defense :)

You better take a WR at 105.

patteeu 08-11-2011 09:12 AM

I noticed that cdcox took a QB, 2 WRs, and a pass rusher with his first four picks in League 2. I wonder if this means that scoring will favor a drafterbater team with top skill players as opposed to a true fan team with dominant lines (acknowledging that QB is important in either case, of course).

Here are the first four members of cdcox's League 2 team, the Souix Falls Swagger, ftr:

A.J. Green WR
Andre Johnson WR
Jay Cutler QB
Justin Houston DE

Can someone post cdcox and rain man's current teams in League 1?

Hammock Parties 08-11-2011 09:13 AM

Uh oh, here comes the run on tight ends. :)
