I actually think Sweden beats Russia and gets to the Gold Medal game. In fact, I wouldn't count Finland out against Russia tomorrow.

Updated bracket just for the visual:

I thought Switzerland would be dangerous. Hiller looked awesome, and they had just enough offense/skill with Nino Niederreiter and that stifling defense. But man, they just choked their collective neutral chickens.

In my dream world, we find a way to beat Russia for the gold. But getting past Canada is about as tough as it gets. I could see a scenario where the winner of Canada/USA is so beat up that they lay an egg against Sweden. But if Russia's there, whoever it is will be ready.

Switzerland plays a defensive trapping style and lacks some offensive skill (at least compared to most of these teams). If they fall behind 2 goals like they did today, it's hard for them to come back.

CaliforniaChief 02-18-2014 04:35 PM

Yeah, that was evident today. But you never know when a goalie gets hot...but it wasn't meant to be. I fully expect Canada and USA to cruise into the semifinals. I also expect Sweden to coast in. However, I would not be surprised if Finland really pushed Russia.

Dunno if I should be more shocked over a Slovenia W or a Swiss loss.

The Czechs just barely pulled out a win over Slovakia, but the US should be clear favorites over them.

Yeah, I think the Swiss could have caused Canada more problems, mostly because of Hiller and the fact they sit back more than Latvia, but they obviously can't score.

I've enjoyed watching Latvia, but they'll push play more, make more mistakes, and get burned a few times... they've been kind of impressive though in terms of effort and sticking around in games.

I hate watching people get injured like that. I've never blown my knee out like that, but even just spraining it can be very painful. I can't help but wince just thinking how painful that must be
