Snatch, Taxi Driver, City of God, and Das Boot are the ones that are the most intriguing to me.

I've intentionally avoided Silence of the Lambs and Aliens due to them being too intense.

I would add these three to the list.

A Clockwork Orange
American History X
Once upon a time in the West
12 Angry Men

Here are the ones I'd most recommend, but there are a few in the list that I also haven't viewed. This is kinda ranked highest first, ignoring Silence of the Lambs and American History X.

Alien is fantastic, you really have to see it.
A Clockwork Orange is great. I've watched it several times and still pick up new stuff.
Snatch is fun.
Taxi Driver is great, I really like the soundtrack too.
City of God, very good.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a good one.
Oldboy is great the first time.

To me, that was a perfect love story. I don't like love stories. I avoid them. I watched that with my 15 year old son and we both enjoyed it. It's that good.

Somebody should probably make a thread about Chick Flicks (love stories, relationship movies, blah blah blah, whatever) that are worth watching. I would put Eternal Sunshine on there. More if I gave it some thought.

You're right, it really is good. I don't know of anyone who's seen it and not liked it, including my brainless action-flick friends.

Bump 01-14-2014 12:52 AM

I've never seen a John Wayne movie

Those are great, especially City of God. That's really more intense than Aliens or Lambs in my opinion, though. I've always thought Silence of the Lambs was overrated.
I really like the Apartment. It might not be everyone's taste, though.

Lzen 01-14-2014 11:09 AM

I have never seen It's a Wonderful Life.

And speaking of Christmas movies, I also haven't seen Miracle on 34th St.

Years ago I saw a double feature of Nosferatu and Metropolis with a live orchestra at the Englewood in Independence. Maybe the No. 1 movie experience of my life. Also saw Psycho and Raiders of the Lost Ark at that theater.
