Good one. I haven't seen it in a long time. I know my parents have it on VHS, I may have to borrow it.

Knowing that it was a black comedy, I didn't take it that seriously. The extent to which the divorcing couple were willing to exceed the bounds of fair play was the gag that the entire movie was based on. Sure it made me uncomfortable a few times, but I kept it in the perspective of the intent of the screen play.

I think, I think, it's a tribute to the acting. Because I can watch something like Bad Santa or Very Bad Things and laugh my ass off. That one just made me hate people in general.

Saving Private Ryan
Full Metal jacket

BroWhippendiddle 01-31-2005 11:48 AM

Heartbreak Ridge.

Jeez, not one mention of, IMO, one of the greatest war flicks of all time: Hamburger Hill.

Anyway, off the top of my head...

Glory
Apocalypse Now
Patton
Saving Private Ryan
The Longest Day
A Bridge Too Far
The Battle of Britain
Black Hawk Down
Platoon
Where Eagles Dare
Tora Tora Tora
Midway

Gaz 01-31-2005 12:22 PM

This is why they make lots of movies...

“Go Tell The Spartans” is far superior to “Hamburger Hill.”

Gaz
Would not put HH anywhere near the top.

Kerberos 01-31-2005 12:28 PM

Dr. StrageLove
Full Metal Jacket
Apocalypse NOW
Braveheart
The Patriot (w/Mel Gibson)
Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
The Gladiator
We Were Soldiers

'Run silent, run deep' and 'They were expendable' are two of my favs. And who can't love 'The dirty dozen'!

Has anyone mentioned "A Midnight Clear." Heavy-handed symbolism, but there were some scenes that disturbed me. That movie shook me up the first time I saw it.

NewChief 01-31-2005 01:08 PM

Apocalypse Now, hands down.

would have to agree with that asessment.
one flick that sticks with you.

mother flipping out at the end and setting
off the 'chain reaction' is a total (bad) trip.

the other scene that sticks is they way the
morgue soldier treats father after the squad
hauls his body halfway across france.

very disturbing film...

I think for hand to hand combat "WAR" that Braveheart is one of the GREATEST movies I have ever seen.

Back then you didn't any real type of medicine let alone conventional medicine.

What did that mean ????

You were one tough Mother fucker or you died.

That was a great WAR movie

Full Metal Jacket, there has never been a better war movie made and never will be.

Where in hell are you from anyway, Private?

COWBOY

Sir, Texas, sir!

HARTMAN
Holy dogshit! Texas! Only steers and queers
come from Texas, Private Cowboy! And you
don't look much like a steer to me, so that
kinda narrows it down! Do you suck dicks!

COWBOY
Sir, no, sir!

HARTMAN
Are you a peter-puffer?

COWBOY
Sir, no, sir!

HARTMAN
I'll bet you're the kind of guy that would ****
a person in the ass and not even have the
goddam common courtesy to give him a reach-
around! I'll be watching you!
