To me we need to be careful in our attempt to fix everything that we end up not fixing anything. Who plays WLB?

Blackstock at the Will, Fujita at Sam.

And I've seen all that talk about Jackson to FS, which doesn't make any sense, since he excelled at CB in school, but struggled at FS when he ws moved there in his junior season.

Blackstock at Will huh :hmmm: O-tay I read a report comparing him to LT which is kinda of exciting. And I hear what you're saying about Jackson. Like I said I think the FS talk was more of a speed issue in workouts then performance on the field. When I watched him play he played well and he does have the size to play bump so....yeah I like him. I like Corey Webster too even though he's kinda fallen from grace. He was injured this year but played and he didn't fair as well and I think he was still not 100% at the Sr Bowl and he showed poorly. If he returns to form he could be a steal if he keeps slipping. I can't ignore his 14 INTs he had in his Soph and Jr years.

Of the 2, Jackson or Webster, everything I've read seems to indicate Jackson is more ready to come in and play now.

That's what we need.

If we stay at 15, I expect Carlos Rogers will be our pick, though.

I believe that's right. I do think Webster if 100% could contribute as a rookie though. I haven't seen his pro day 40 time though. He didn't run on the 1st LSU pro day and I'm not sure they've had their 2nd set of work outs. If they did if was in the last couple of days. IMO Jackson and Webster are both being a little overlooked while some rawer talent is stealing the limelight because of their speed and athletic ability. Upside I guess is the proper term.

He's big, strong, fast and quick.
He's one of the few guys that I've seen play, and he's going to be big time runstuffing/pass rush DE.

As for Blackstock, every scouting report I've read on him says that he has improved against the run each year in college, becoming a sloid run defender by last season.

They say his only real weakness is his pass coverage skills, and while they haven't improved as much as his run defense, they have, and he is expected to continue to improve because he's a film study-holic, and a hard worker.

At 290, he has tons of potential to be a good DE, particularly in a 3-4.

Everything I've read on Blackstock is that he's pretty one-dimnesional and took great advantage of the fact that UVA was one of a handful of schools in D-1 that run a 3-4. The one time I saw him play he didn't drop back in coverage once, he purely rushed the passer.

He's NOT a Will. We need guys who can play right away, not more projects. Putting Blackstock at WSLB would be a big project.

Jackson will be a CB in the NFL, and my bet is that he'll be a damn good one.

I watched the guy play at Meecheegan and he's exactly what we need - ready to play Day 1.

I don't think Blackstock is just a pass rusher though that's the strongest part of his game. To me he's a down hill player. IMO he's a SLB in a 4-3 and I've read nothing that says he's a liability against the run. I read an interview of his and he is extremely confident that he can play in any scheme. FWIW

This is the Blackstock scouting report from NFL Draft Countdown. Other reports I've read sound basically the same.

Strengths: Has good size...Tall and rangy frame...Does an excellent job at getting after the quarterback and is a great pass rusher...Good quickness and has a burst...Excellent athletic ability...Very productive.
Weaknesses: A liability versus the run...Not a natural in coverage...Lacks fluid hips...Doesn't change direction well...Plays in a 3-4 defense that is perfectly tailored to his skills and may need to be in a similar scheme in the pros.
Notes: Overshadowed by Ahmad Brooks and Kai Parham at times...Would be a perfect fit at outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme...A little overrated due to his pass rush numbers and is basically still a raw, one-trick pony at this point.

FYI, they are pretty accurate with their mocks and they have him going 31st in the FIRST round to Philly.

White, has a good upside, but his value now is fairly low. I dont see him having a major impact this year. Also, everything i hear about the guy, is not impressive, personality wise. Kind of a slacker, who doesnt give full effort all of the time. Not my kind of guy, but should fit in well with Courtney Brown and Gerrard Warren.

The Falcons select - WR Mark Clayton, Oklahoma

The Chargers select - OLB/DE Matt Roth, Iowa

So the Chargers took a 290-pound DT with hopes of moving him to DE and then took a 270-pound DE with hopes of moving him to OLB?

This looks awfully dumb to me, but that being said, I hope Matt Roth doesn't go to an AFC West team unless it's the Chiefs. It's bad enough watching Gallery play for the Raiders...
