It may have been said, but I find it a suspicious coincidencet that the gas prices have gone up because of "low supplies" or "OPEC not producing enough" and the profits of all major oil corportions are setting records...it's obscene and something needs to be blown up....

Big Daddy,
We've got a Chevron station in Angels Camp that is now 2.39 - 2.49 - 2.59 across the board. I have to chuckle at the folks who are whining because their prices "have jumped" to 1.59. After getting corn holed for electricity this past winter, these gas prices are just chump change for this NoCal resident... |
Our new Energy Secretary just predicted gasoline prices may exceed a $1.68 this summer.

A local station owner here in Wiskey Rapids told me this morning during my daily Coke stop that he fully expects to be posting $2.50 for regular before it goes back down. BTW - anyone know what station owners pay for their fuel for their cars???? |
Cal Injun,
They have us convinced here that we need to pay more for everything. The prices I posted were the cheapest I can find. Sharon Heights is over $3.00 a gallon now. BTW, you wouldn't know anyone that works at DMV would you? BIG DADDY Trying to get a green sticker for the new dirtbike. |
1.55 cpg in KY for unleaded......And on the rise to boot. With summer coming and the puplic on vacations, yeah you can expect them to sore to 1.75-1.85 cpg range.

Three words ...
Too fucking much!
Prices went up by 10¢ between Tuesday and Wednesday here in KC ... in KS (where I work) it's around $1.69. In MO (where I live) it's about $1.60. Doesn't sound too bad, unless you consider that my truck gets about 20 MPG going downhill with a 40 MPH tailwind and I commute 70 miles each day. But cigarette prices at QuikTrip went down ... $22 for a carton. What a bargain! MM ~~Needs to work from home. |
Gasoline is a world wide traded commodity. If speculators start hoarding above ground stocks then who knows the price. Some are predicting $3 to $4 without spec hoarding. Stay tuned. This is not a controllable issue within our borders.
Some years back, oil tankers used to wait offshore for the highest bidder. Of course, if the consumer starts to hoard, it gets ridiculous. |
The administration may think it is to their benefit to egg on the crisis in order to render their solution more palatible but this can get out of hand in short order. Just as bad mouthing the economy, instant news and instant reaction go hand in hand.

Clint-
Our supply from OPEC is between 55-62% What would you say is too much? Oleman- Man it has to be frustrating for you. Another Clinton disaster comes home to roost early in the first term. Two oil men in the White house to deal with it. We are going to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. Increase Nuclear, and go explore onshore public lands. The new admin will begin outer continental shelf exploration outside of western and central Gulf of Mexico. Democrats will whine---greenies will jump out of trees and America will finally have an energy policy. Good Luck with your mission, so far it's been a rousing success. :) |

Since my post a few hours ago, Bush has flipped and now is actually coming around to the Carterian view and proposals. Before hanging everything on Clinton, the Repubs were unfriendly to his proposals and the oil industry knew better than rob the country under Clinton. But it does fit with the current administration, if they can blame Clinton then they don't have to do anything. |
Does anybody let out a good belly laugh when driving behind those huge SUV's that were mass purchased by the gullible public a few years back?
"Yeah buddy, like the price of gas was gonna stay below $1.10." I still drive an '87 Celica (28-30 mpg) while my two '65 Galaxies stay covered in the garage. It doesn't look pretty but it beats hearing that gasoline vacuum from an eight cylinder. |
Can not verify it, but rumor has it that the oil companys just put in a large order for the #3 for their signs. I wonder why that would be!!!!!!!

Oleman-
Flip flop? What are you referring to? The conservation policies in Cal? ''I think conservation has got to be part of making sure we have got a reasonable energy policy, but what the vice president was saying was we can't conserve our way to energy independence,'' Bush said. ''We have got to do both. We've got to conserve, but we also have to find new sources of energy.'' Care to try again? We will drill; we will open up the Alaskan Reserve. We will explore more options. We will burn more coal. More Nuclear plants--more power for our country from all these sources. ******************* BTW-The oil companies knew better than to rob the Country under Clinton? Wasn't he the prez last summer when this all finally came to fruition? Retail Gas $2.50+---Home power bills through the roof. (Don't believe me--ask Bob Dole) And his answer--tap into the strategic reseves. Great ploy--too bad it didn't work--for him or Al. 8 years--no energy policy--Hazel and Richardson, buffoons, the both. Good Luck. |
Michigan
The previous position of Bush was that conservation would hurt the economy. The budget he submitted reflected a policy geared completely to hydrocarbon supply. Then, they started using the word conservation but had no policy. Yesterday, they recommended the thermostat solution. This is much the same route he has followed in Cal. It was someones elses fault so not his problem. Then it became a committee thing working around the edges and now finally is listening to the problem of his campaign contributors gouging the Californians. They still say that only a great increase in co2 production will solve the problem. When, confronted with the fact that increasing the fuel efficiency of SUV's by three miles per gal will yield more supply than ANWR they are silent. However, Ford on its own admitted the problem which might goad them to look more closely at their theory. |
