edit- id like to again thank pastor for turnin me onto the stove. Its run like a champ and with the added heat reclaimer has cut my wood consumption by 25%. Heating costs this year will be upkeep on saws & splitter, under 300$ from oct-march. |
Stumppy's story reminds me of my first apartment. It was in a shitty old two story house that had been converted into three apartments. During the winter of '84 (very cold in Kirksville) the heat went out and the landlady (who hated me, no doubt with good reason) didn't fix it. At first I just left the oven door open and cranked up the temperature to 500, but then one night the oven died (I assume the old bitch shut the gas off since I didn't suffocate or get blown up) and the temperature dropped like a stone. I was buried under blankets, and woke up to the sight of my breath almost crystalizing in front of me. The only difference in temperature between inside and outside was inside there was no wind. One of the windows was cracked, and there was actually a pile of snow on the floor underneath it. When I went in the bathroom and turned on the hot water, the steam completely filled the apartment. That was trippy.
At that point I called my stepmom, who apparently knew shit like that was illegal. I don't know what she said to the bitch landlady, but my heat was fixed later than morning. |
