It wasn't a good pitch by Bale, but it shows the value of elite hitters. Jacobs still swings through that ball exclusively because it came from a left-hander. Morneau was fooled, was able to keep his weight back and throw his hands at the ball and was still able to muscle the ball out.

The Royals can go get as many $4 million/season players as they want, but they'll never get over the hump until they get at least one truly elite bat in there.
