Hard lessons learned.

I moved to Texas to live with my dad my sophmore year...there was this one guy who was very popular and would fling shit my way everyday..to the point that sometimes I'd go home crying mad, looking for sympathy from my pops..and I'll never forget what my dad said.."either do something about it, or shut the hell up"

next day, he started in on me..left hook to the jaw..never had another problem. I won't lie and say I wasn't scared, dude was pretty tough.

thanks dad.

Hope it gets better for you. The fact that your did has a parent who cares and is involved tells me it will.

I would say a day of video games and internet porn would take care of it.

yeah BRC I was like that, stayed to myself a lot and was bullied for being the fat kid in grade school. After awhile of taking the verbal punishments for being a fat white kid in an area dominated by blacks and mexicans I had enough, started fighting..lost some won some. Then I hit a growth spurt and was 6' by time I was 13, eventually hit 6'4 and never really had bully problems but always looked out for the geeks and weaks

At my kid's school we have the Olweus Bully Prevention Program. The kids can anonymously report issues that are talked about during regular class meetings. No punishment, just talk. So much different than when I was in school.

If you start a fight you are in trouble.
In the 5 years my 5th grader has been at the school there has only been one altercation. A kid who had transferred in grabbed my son's throat on the playground. My son dropped the kid. The kid who started it was expelled, my son was asked to tell his side of the story, no disciplinary action was taken.
If my kid would have been punished for self defense I'd have pulled all three of my boys from that school.

Sorry to hear your kid is having trouble.
Question: the other kid causes so much trouble he needs an adult escort? What kind of school is it that they don't expel this kid?

A public one.

Can public schools not expel students? Not being a smart ass; sincere question.

Both of my parents are retired teachers and this is part of the reason why they both took early retirement. Problem kids can’t just be expelled. There isn’t much in the way of discipline in a public school anymore.

I will be dilligent about taking care of my son! I just don't know how to deal with red tape sometimes. Thanks for your kind words Vail, you've always been alright with me.

Once my daughter got very upset at a boy teasing her and she hit him in the arm. I told her that if she was going to hit someone, then it needed to be in the face.... as it was, she got in trouble and didn't even make the kid pay for what he said.

I tell my kids to stand up for themselves. I tell them that I won't tolerate them bullying other children, but that I will back them up for standing up to a physical or verbal bully.

These parents that breed wussified children annoy me.

I do not want them lashing out every time someone hurts their feelings, but if a person is legitamitely bullying or trying to intimidate them.... even if it is only through speech.... I have no problem with them pumeling the kid.

And don't think we didn't appreciate it. I had a rather large friend who was kind enough to get me out of a scrape or two.

MY KIDS 14...5'0' AND 101LBS! But he is VERY athletic and I really don't worry about him getting hurt. When I do....I will teach him self defense. NOT until then!

you really think that he just called the kid 'butter fingers'? i'm just assuming that isn't all that he said to the other kid. he probably mouthed off and got popped. big deal. though i agree that a kid should be able to defend himself, he's probably going to get into the same situation if he keeps running his mouth to other kids.

meh, i have called him butterfingers for about 3 years now when we play catch and we play catch often. Even if a little trash talking was in it, it still is no reason to punch someone. Its all good he kicked the kids ass though. He didnt take no shit and for me thats a plus. This was the first ti me he has EVER gotten into trouble at school.

I am sure he will get into more fights as he grows up, who didnt? i know i got into my fair share of them growing up. Like people have said, kids will be kids. Its not his fault that the other kid cant handle a little trash talking. lol
