The offer and it's intention is honor enough to me.

Lol. No shit. It cracks me up that the banks close. You know most of those women working at the bank are Vets. LMAO.

School still goes on, pretty much all business except for banks are open.

The holiday doesn't get it's due.

We close down the whole town and have a parade down the main street. But we're not Commie pillowbitergots over here.

This is 2011. Pillowbiters are allowed to be open about their pillowbiting as vets.

Thanks Pops for the 42 plus years you served. Miss you every day.
Thanks to all those that serve, have served, & protect the greatest nation on earth.
Each with his or her own story & sacrifice. Much appreciation

THIS

I never feel right accepting something for free because of the years I spent in uniform.

I don't really mind going to a place if it is a place I go to regularly, anyway. For my dad and I, it is just a chance to get together on a day we both take off work.

We always take time to personally thank the general manager/owner of the establishment. I understand how some of you view it, but it is a nice gesture and it is only once a year.

They can bite all the pillows they want as long as we get a parade. Yee haw.

BRC definitely has the most useful threads on CP, and has for a very long time. More than I can say, for sure. But, what was that one thread? Oh yeah, how to talk get a human voice and bypass automated-attendants at random businesses. That was a very valuable thread. Is that one still available via 'search' or did it get chalked out over the years?

I think for the majority of people involved its not about the free wings. Its about recognizing service to country. Sure there is crass comercialism involved but at its roots.....its about saying thank you for your service to the country.
