As probably one of the biggest Royals homers on the board I can't think of one good reason to have started Will Smith in this game. The Vin Mazzaro treatment over again. Mendoza wasn't a good starter but he'd have been a much smarter choice tonight imo.

The "good reason" is that Dayton Moore doesn't know how to manage or assemble a decent ML roster. This is the same criticism that has been valid since his over-rated self rolled into KC.

Yay!

No someone quick point out that we have the #3 rated farm system.

That's actually not a good reason though.

I was behind the Melky Cabrera trade. it was a decent gamble (And wouldn't be nearly as painful if the Royals had done more to help the pitching staff in the offseason). I would have rather seen them sign him long-term than Franceouer, but I don't know if Melky staying in KC was even really an option (it was never discussed).

Starting to look more and more like Moore's time in KC might mirror that of another John Schuerholz-system product, Chuck LeMar... build up the farm system, then hand it off to someone new.

The Royals likely will be playing for Dayton's job next season...

I was completely behind the Melky trade too. Who wouldn't have been really? A desperately needed starter for an expendable outfielder with Cain ready to take over. Now Cain's hurt and Sanchez blows so far... and Melkys raking. 'Bout the way most of our trades seem to go.

Well, at least the Royals are smart enough to learn from history and not make the same boneheaded mistakes more than once.

Oh...

Oh...

I'm not sure what bonehead mistake you are talking about.

Calling up a nobody to start in Yankee Stadium, when we don't really have ANY other options?

Or trading a noodle-armed OF coming off a career year for badly needed starting pitching, when we have 2 stud OF ready for the majors?

Mendoza would have been a better choice than Smith simply from an experience standpoint. Plus he's pitched well in log relief.
