I would not be surprised if Pioli believes that Cassel's skill-set fits in nicely with the strong pieces that are around him. First, I believe Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis are the best running duo he has ever had. Charles, straight up, is a game changer. It is safe to say, Tony Moeaki should even be better than he has been in his previous two seasons. I remember him doing well for Cassel in the red zone.
In addition, Eric Winston was a tremendous pickup from Houston - He should sure up the Chiefs offensive line. I think that - Charles and Hillis should finish on top with the help of having Winston on the line (wish we had them). Finally, Bowe, Breaston and Baldwin in the slot (?) should emerge as a top tier receiver threat.
This is it for Cassel. This is his made or break year as starting quarterback. I understand your concerns. It is as it is - However, in order for Cassel to succeed, he will have to go out and prove that he is no longer a game manager but a leader who can take his team to a Super Bowl. I am hoping we can expect to see that going forward.
About the defense and the success, they have had, barring future changes – They are moving in the right direction. This is early innings, and I do believe the Chiefs have some exciting potential down the road.
