The kid wasn't hostile, so there was no reason for the pig to respond that violently.

And you are leaving out one important fact: THE COP LIED. So it's obvious that he knew he ****ed up.

I'd have no problem with this had the cop pulled a Terry Tate on him.

He'd still have his job and would not be going to trial.
