I'm not sure why there's so much love for Abdullah and Parker. They're only getting love because they are better than the absolute shit show options we had in Lewis and Dunta Robinson. It's the Brady Quinn effect. We were so anxious to get rid of Cassel that we tried our hardest to get excited about any QB that wasn't Matt Cassel.

If we have to keep these guys around as backups because we can't fix the secondary problem overnight, fine. But we can do a whole lot better.

No. Abdullah can be an above average coverage safety that is a somewhat sure tackler, as well. Also, his picks weren't just being in the right place at the right time, each of them was when he had tight coverage and made a play on the ball.

IMO Abdullah was one of our better defenders.

The guy was good in Minnesota, too. They offered him a 4 year deal before he went on his religious pilgrimage.

He is also solid in the locker room...his teammates even voted him in as a team captain...that speaks volumes to what kind of man and player he is.

I'd have no issues with it if they re-signed him for 4 years.

I always want quality depth, especially if it comes cheap. But I don't want to walk into next year with Abdullah as our best option at Free Safety. He's much better than our current dumpster fire options, but instead of comparing him to Lewis, I'd rather compare him to an average starting free safety. If you do that, he's just a guy.

If it still existed he'd be in Europe this spring.

I assure you, Europe still exists.

Umm... no thank you. Berry has had more than his fair share of ****ups in coverage.

ThaVirus 01-19-2014 11:20 AM

Bethea is on the wrong side of 30 if I'm not mistaken. He's still good but he's old and will command more coin than we'll be willing to give. Pass on that..

He is a lot better than "quality depth" from what I saw.

Especially when he got more opportunities on the field late in the year..

.........

I'd have no problem bringing Bethea in, either. He is a good player with some gas left in the tank.

If all we did at safety all offseason was re-sign Abdullah and bring in Bethea, I'd be content going into next year with

Berry
Bethea
Abdullah
Commings

Shit, I'd probably be excited.

Not sure Verrett is the difference maker worthy of our first round pick. I'm all about BPA since we have to wait until the third round to make our second pick but I'm just not sure he would be BPA at 23. His size would be an issue for me since he is only 5' 9.5" tall at 176 lbs.

I'll leave that up to Dorsey. If he is a shutdown corner then absoutely!

He reminds me a lot of Lardarius Webb when he was healthy. Elite change of direction, aggressive in coverage, elite reaction speed, great recovery speed, has the athleticism to go up and battle for the ball against bigger receivers, and to top it all off he is great in run support especially given his size. It honestly wouldn't be a stretch to say that he could come in and immediately be the best CB on the team as a rookie.

As long as Lewis is gone (hopefully to chOakland).
I would love to see Sutton replaced as well, but I doubt that will happen.

Mr. Laz 01-20-2014 12:09 PM

too late to move Berry to FS imo

I wanted Crennel to work him with the cornerbacks and put him at FS right out of college but it's over, he's a Strong Safety.

We had a good chance to replace Sutton with Horton and didn't. Sutton is here until someone tells Reid to fire him.

The guy is big and fast, high hopes are in order... but as others have said, we need to go get an insurance policy in free agency if they dont grab someone in the draft.

Dorsey signed McMillian cheap, that's like a free 4th round pick, that still has time to develop, he sucked last year but the dude was picked off the scrap heap and will compete at safety just like Demps/Abdullah were scrap heap picks last year. He's faster than what he had back there at least, still can't tackle, but whatever.

Wait, we signed McMillian? It says he's still a free agent

RealSNR 01-20-2014 02:34 PM

That's what I deserve for not logging on CP that day.

Holy shit. That's awesome. Dorsey ****ing rules.
