Yeah I never would have bet on this in a million years. But it might be why he couldn't get an NFL job. Looks like he wanted total control more than anything else. NFL teams don't really do that much anymore. And I'd bet there are bigger college programs than UNC that would be interested in him if he wanted to coach college. But this was the program that would give him total control.

Do college programs usually have general managers? I always thought it was the AD and the coach.

Many do now with NIL/transfer portal free agency.

That makes sense. It also seems kinda wrong. But hey, money!

It’s basically professional football now… now without trying to hide it.

I think the NIL era is going to help Bill over traditional recruiting IMO. Players will line up to play for a legend, so just like they did for Saban at Alabama, Bill should benefit. And if these players know anything about those two men, then Bill will definitely benefit.

Just nail recruiting in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, & Florida and get those NIL lottery tickets.

Having to deal with boosters/alumni/donors, more restrictions on practice time compared to the NFL, and college players having the power to transfer every year are going to be his biggest adjustments to the college game.

Maybe his wish list was 400 pages of "Gimme money. Gimme money" over and over again. LOL

I'm sure he's spent plenty of time with Nick in learning the nuances. I don't see him doing it for too many years though, long enough to establish a baseline and let his son take the reigns.

Luckiest coach in NFL history. Gets Tom Brady in the 6th rd and does absolutely **** all without him.

I wish the football God’s would have bless Marty with such luck. God knows he deserved it.

DrunkBassGuitar 12-12-2024 02:38 PM

apparently his first words as coach are "beat duke" I would have used a different word but the sentiment is right

He'll either do well and get UNC to some bowl games because kids will want to play for him or it will be like Charlie Weis at KU

It will be interesting to see how much of the negative connotations of the “Patriots Way” culture… i.e. draconian/no fun/old school… will be used as a negative recruiting strategy against Belichick.

That was the genius of Saban… taking that type of culture and molding it in a way that worked and appealed to 18-22 year olds.
