Whatever, I felt compelled to respond since it was directed at me, and you seemed to be putting emphasis on it. I may be a loser compared to some of the people on this board, but you sure as hell aren't one of them.

Our average daily post rate may have been only 2,330 for the year, but that was dragged down a lot by the offseason. We've been closer to 3,000 per day lately. Anyway, here are the final rankings:

I just found some posts in my car, and they're mostly for me. I want a recount.

I was being very sarcastic in that post. I apologize, I certainly don't think you're a loser...especially not compared to someone who is excited every time he sees he has more than $100 in his checking account...

Shit, don't think for a second that I've never been there myself, it isn't much fun. Likewise, I apologize for taking a shot at what you do for a living, any job is a respectable one.

There's just nothing wrong with staying home on New Year's Eve...they call it amateur night for a reason. And you were right, those of us that were here did post more than normal because of it, so props are in order for taking that into consideration.

I look forward to the part of my personal maturation that allows me to stop going out...my friends and I were playing Rock Band and downed a case of beer and didn't get to the bars until around 11 PM last night. I think I was having more fun playing Rock Band...plus the quantity of champagne I downed caused me to have a killer headache all day...and after this post we're all going out for round 2! I hate being home for the Holiday's...I'm a sucker for peer pressure...can't turn down a beer. Or 10.

I was young once and did all the same shit. I don't know if it's so much as maturation as I still like to party, it's more about me having way too much to lose now so I can't take the risk. Hell, even if you're out there completely sober you can still get caught up in someone elses stupidity.

ROFL

cdcox 01-01-2009 10:58 PM

So the two sad things are that 1) I took 10 minutes to do a semi-close estimate and 2) still got smoked by Hootie's guess.

(Basically copied 7 pages of the main forum into a spreadsheet, tallied the posts in those threads, omitting some of the old ones that had been bumped and added 90% of that total to the amount in DaFace's beginning count).

Thanks for the consolation prize, DaFace.

Would you like me to intervene? Hootie, maybe you shouldn't drink?

DaFace 03-11-2009 08:30 PM

Man, Pioli and Co have really jump started this year in terms of post count! We're currently at about 75% more posts for the year than we were at this point last year. Here's a nifty graph for the math geeks out there.

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/8360/posts.png

cdcox 03-11-2009 08:40 PM

So what happened in September-October of last year? Was it DC traffic? That slope was steeper than any other regular season on record.

If you look carefully, you can see the draft every year after 2002.

cdcox 03-11-2009 08:44 PM

The slope during the season in 2002 was almost the same as the slope of the season in 2003. The big difference between 2002 and 2003 was that the slope during off season in 2003 was nearly equal to the slope during the season. 2003 was the first year that CP became a year around board in a big way.

If the slope that we saw last season holds, we've entered a new era of Chiefs planet.

My hypothesis is that it's a result of the new server. In past years, gamedays were somewhat limited by the server's capacity. Now that the cap has been lifted, so to speak, people can stick around here to talk about the games rather than splitting time with other boards and/or getting frustrated and walking away entirely.

I'm wondering that myself. I certainly think that this offseason's activities have sparked an interest level in discussing the team in that we've not seen before. It'll be interesting to see if that holds through the rest of the year. Could a one-million-post year be in our future? :hmmm:

We started having intermittent freezes around here a month or so ago. I hypothesized that one of its queries was the cause, so I disabled it. The freezes seem to have gone away, so I think that may have been it. I may still try out a new version of it at some point though.

Bugeater 03-11-2009 10:52 PM

Oh, if it was causing freeze ups then **** it, it wasn't that important.

Looks like Dartgod closed it (he has mod powers in CasinoPlanet). It was probably mucking up the forum and got in the way once the season started.

Since it's the offseason, though, I'll open it back up - just for you. It'll probably get closed or moved again once the season comes back around.

Awesome. This is good news. Somebody inform Simplex!

I'm not sure what's changed, but this place is rockin' compared to last year. Here's the latest graph:

http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/1144/stats0418.png

At the end of Q1, we had 284,290 posts, which puts us on a pace of over 1.1 million posts for the year. Of course, we'll probably slow down a bit in the summer and speed up a bit in the fall, but overall it seems clear that this offseason isn't near as slow as previous years around here. We're currently (as of April 18) at 334,989 posts, which is a whopping 36% increase over our previous best-year at this point of 2007.

Buck 04-18-2009 11:14 AM

Its probably DCS

Hootie 04-18-2009 11:25 AM

it's because my xbox broke

DaFace 04-18-2009 11:30 AM

Also, here's a graph showing the number of users who log in on an average day:

http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/5578/users0418l.png

It's a bit deceiving since people don't have to log in to lurk, but it's interesting nonetheless. Basically, we've got about the same number of people logging in as in 2007, but people are posting more. I agree - I blame DCS.

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/2238/trendsapr.png

You can definitely see a change in slope last season that seems to have carried into the offseason. In fact, our 2008 Sep-Dec average is actually lower than our 2009 Jan-Apr average. This place is actually slightly busier NOW than it was during the season. :spock:

DaFace 05-31-2009 09:51 PM

Update:

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/7494/maystats.png

Still on about the same pace as earlier (1.1m for the year), though the gap between this and previous years is actually widening. We're now up about 63% over last year and 38% over 2007. Basically, the summer slump isn't quite as large this year compared to the past.

To give you an idea of how much of a difference there is, we averaged 2500 or so posts per day in May 2009 compared to about 1600 per day in May 2008. WTF has changed?

It's really this month that has me baffled. I have been attributing it to the new regime so far, but nothing notable has really happened with the Chiefs this month.

The only thing I can think is that we kind of jump started the offseason with that, and people have stuck around for all of the other dumbassery. In the past, people got bored in February and March, poked their heads in in April for the draft, and then ran away for the rest of the offseason. This year, people have basically stuck around the whole time.
