Oh, the latest update (don't remember where I read it, get over it) is that Martin is being severely pressured by his publisher to wrap shit up on Dance with Dragons and announce a release date by the end of the year.
Of course, whether it happens or not is, as always, a matter of conjecture. Procrastinating ****. FINISH THE BOOK GODDAMMIT :cuss: |
Yeah I almost wish I had waited til they were all done before I read them. He's so goddamn slow

He's been dicking around with it for FIVE YEARS. :shake:

Martin's latest blog entry is promising...
Oct. 27th, 2010 at 9:59 AM "Ashford Castle has some impressive halls and chambers... but nothing to compare to the high hall of the Eyrie, and the throne room in the Red Keep of King's Landing. Hot damn. I'd say more, but in a few minutes we're off to Castle Black and the Wall." Could that mean he's actually writing.... ? |

I am about 2/3 the way through the first book so I have to be careful reading this thread, but holy shit, what a page-turner. It really is twist after twist and everyone just f**king over everyone.

Keep reading. The first book is just lights out. The second one is a little slower, but still really nice. This third one is ... just ... WOW. Keep reading. |

830 pages into Storm...

It's absurd, but so many people have told me how disappointed they are with FOC, that it kinda makes we want to read it. Sometimes bad press is so alluring.
Actually, I'm definately taking a break after I finish up SOS. I have a lot of other books on deck that I'm really excited to get to. Maybe I'll hit up FOC once the next one is actually published. :) |
I have definately hit the "crack" portion of this novel. I've read almost 150 pages in the last 24 hours. Which doesn't sound like a lot, but given that I worked 8 of those hours, slept another 8 of those hours, worked out and ate meals during that time, and I'm the slowest reader I know... that's epic! :)
Hell, it took me a week to read the first 150 pages or so! |
Also...
Spoiler!
So awesome. |
You know, I really get sick of people using 'epic' to describe things, but the ending of that book was truly epic.
And it might be a good idea to hold off on Feast For Crows until the next book comes out. Since the next book is supposed to be the other side of Crows (ie, going through the same time period, but from different character's perspectives), you might avoid some of the disappointment with Crows that others have felt (myself included). |

Only 76 pages left until I finish Storm!
But I've got a busy weekend ahead.... may not finish it up until Tues.... we'll see... |
I finished up Storm. Sweet baby Jesus. Phenominal.
So much shock and awe. So many things I just never saw coming. I almost shit m'self on the final two pages. |
Absolutely. Storm is just an incredible book. Even on my third time through it, it still held its power.
|
I am behind all of the rest of you, I just finished Game of Thrones and got through part of the prologue to Kings this morning. Quite an ending to that book, I must say.
I can't wait to see how HBO brings it to life. I don't trust most tv networks or movie studios, but I do trust HBO to not screw it all up. They nailed the casting for Eddard. I will have to look more on IMDB to see who they cast in the rest of the roles. |

As for the Cersei comment, I picture her to be hotter than doughnut grease, with her being such a **** being part of how freaking hot she is. If you watched Spartacus Blood and Sand, I picture her to be something like this actress who played Ilithyia, but even hotter. http://www.moviefancentral.com/image..._90755e507.jpg I haven't seen many photos of the one they have slated to play Cercei, but will be dissappointed if she is anything less than stunning. |
I also think the Varys, Littlefinger and Dany actors are lights out, near-genius strokes. Those are all dead-on, I think.
And I think Cercei looks perfect. Once she goes blonde, I bet she'll look exactly how I pictured her while reading. I love that I'm not familiar with all the actors, as well. It should really add something "authentic" to the piece, if that makes sense. |

I am about 15% into Clash of Kings right now, still trailing behind most everybody but I am reading pretty quickly. My kindle is getting two hours of use each day in my commute to/from work. |

I am wondering what they will do with the direwolves, whether they will be CGI or not. I imagine in Game of Thrones you might get away with using large trained wolves because the direwolves weren't full-grown but it seems a full-grown direwolf is much bigger than a normal wolf. I hope they show Grey Wind tearing ass through a battefield in the series. |
Found this sight with decent pictures of the cast... less holes than IMDB.
aGoT Cast I'm about 60% through A Game of Thrones and am loving it. Glad this series was brought to my attention through this thread. |
Quote:
There are a lot of other things - especially in the books after aGoT - that are going to be hard to pull off; things that seem likely to drive up the cost of production. And probably court a necessary CGI. Though, I'd like to see that limited as much as possible. |

Keep us posted as you progress. I love reading how people react as the story unfolds. |

One of the guys in my gaming group just bought the pen and paper RPG for Song of Ice and Fire. It sounds pretty cool, and we're probably going to start up a campaign before long if we ever finish our current 4E sessions.

I just picked up the book again and got to the first "oh shit" moment. Damn...

I just started the first chapter of the book last weekend.....

Breaking down the preview parts:
Beginning, where they behead the runaway black. Deanarys with some big buff dude. Jamie and crew drawing swords on Ned and crew after the Imp was taken captive. Some talking Imp being taken at the inn Daenarys with one of her ladies Cersei? talking to Ned Ned fighting against the Lannisters from when they drew swords earlier Jon Imp slapping Joffrey? Must be him with the colors he wears. Melee at the tournament, I assume the one Sansa is at where Loras give her a rose Some chick getting it on. Looks like the Imp on bottom maybe...perhaps a flashback of he and his first wife Can't tell where the fighting is...thought perhaps the wall, but I don't see a lot of black. Anyone see it different? |

Guys, this thing's gonna exceed expectations.
|
Part of me wishes I'd not read the books, so I'd be surprised by everything that happens.

Yeah, I hear that. But I read them long enough ago, that it'll still feel fairly fresh, I think.

They sure nailed the smarmy-as-**** look with Baelish.

Yeah Baelish might be my overall favorite casting choice. He looks exactly how I pictured him.

I am about 80% through Clash of Kings, and holy shit, Martin doesn't mind having main characters murderated out of nowhere. Anyone is fair game, and that's a good thing. I honestly have ZERO idea where the story could be going for the rest of the book and Storm of Swords. |

Okay people I need some help. Im reading and Im only like 170 pages in or something....I'm at the part where.....
Spoiler!
Anyways I'm having trouble of keeping track of who is who. I'm afraid to look up a relationship chart on the internet because I don't want to be spoiled. Can you help me. I think I just realized that Eddard is Ned, right? I didn't realize they were the same until an entired Eddard chapter used only the name Ned. Okay So Eddard Stark is the father of which kids? And his wife is Catelyn right? Who is Robert and how is he related to them? Those are my main questions for now and try to not spoil me, thanks. |
There should be a character glossary at the back of the book.
Been a while since I read the books but... Eddard is Ned. Robb, Bran, Rickon, Sansa, Arya, & Jon Snow are Ned & Catelyn's kids. Snow is the bastard. King Robert & Ned are old friends who grew up in the same house under Jon Aryyn |
Old yeller dies at the end.
|
Every time I click on this thread I hope it's an announcement that that prick Martin has finally set a release date for the next book. God I'd like slap the shit out of that guy once an hour until he gets off his ass and finishes it. :#
|
Question for those of you who read the first book.
Did Ned end up killing Lady? That whole thing sort of ended abruptly when they brought the butcher's son's body to Ned. Or should I just keep reading to find out? |
Keep reading. Not that its much of a spoiler.
|
Quote:
Eddard is Ned. That had me confused for a bit too. Ned's wife is Catelyn (of House Tully of Riverrun). His chidren he had with Catelyn from oldest to youngest are: Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon. Ned has a bastard son that lives with them at Winterfell, Jon Snow. Robert is Ned's best friend. He ascended to become King after the Targaryens were ousted from the throne (and where Jamie Lannister earned the title Kingslayer). |

Overall the book is very adult in nature but I really appreciate the subtle little laughs I get from it. Case in point, the names of the direwolves: Ghost (awesome), Grey Wind (pretty cool), Nymeria (kickass), Summer (makes sense), Lady (also makes sense) and............Shaggydog. I laughed my ass off during that part.

I cannot stop talking about these damn books. |
For those that watch the series and don't read the book in advance, it will be filled with surprises. With that said, I imagine there will be lots of people pooping in their britches in the final episode. The whole book was filled with holy shit moments, the moments at the end were more like holy f**king f**k moments.
|
Quote:
And also of note...Daenarys looks to be the hottest one I've seen much of in the clips...which is a little creepy to me since I keep thinking of her as a 13 YO from the books. |
I just really, really hope that they don't cut Beric Dondarrion from the TV show, but I have a feeling that he and Thoros will be cast aside.
|

Quote:
There was a website that really disected the screencaps from the previews and someone thought they spied Thoros in one of the shots. If they show any part of the melee, they obviously have to show Thoros. |
This is a great reference site to refresh your memory: http://www.towerofthehand.com/
You can expand/focus the scope of each entry by book so you don't spoil anything, but if you haven't finished the first one it could potentially spoil the first book's big moments. |
