A 36-year-old Florida woman has been sentenced to prison after admitting she had sex with her friend's 12-year-old son.

Joy McCall, who has children the same age as the victim, was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison, with 134 days credit for time served, according to the Ocala Star Banner. She pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a child.

The Marion Oaks woman was arrested in February after the victim told a friend at church that he'd been having sex his mother's friend. The boy's confidant told his mother, who contacted the victim's mother.

The victim's mother checked her son's text messages and found a conversation of a sexual nature between the boy and McCall, who is three times his age. The messages culminated in McCall sending the victim a photo of herself in her underwear, according to WCJB.

She contacted the Ocala Police Department, who launched an investigation.

According to police, the woman also contacted the victim several times on Facebook, and made plans to have him meet her at a mall.

Police interviewed the victim and determined that he and McCall had sex in her car in a mall parking lot, and then again on two different occasions in a secluded wooded area in Ocala.

According to the Ocala Post, two encounters took place in January and one in February.

In the first incident, on January 13, police said the boy got a ride with his older brother to the mall, then said he had to use the restroom and met the woman at her car, where they had sex. In the subsequent incidents, McCall picked the boy up after he told his parents he was going on a bike ride.

People who knew McCall told the Ocala Post that she always seemed a little unstable and “weird.”

In calm and soft tones, a 14-year-old Philadelphia boy told a Family Court judge on Friday about the more than 10 times that he had sex with his special-education teacher over several months this spring.

The boy was the only witness at a preliminary hearing for Stephanie Amato, 30, who taught at Ethan Allen Elementary School in Northeast Philadelphia.

Under questioning by Assistant District Attorney B.K. Jaycox, the boy said their encounters took place in her parents' home in Northeast Philadelphia, in her car while parked in an alleyway near Harbison Avenue and Levick Road, and in a park. They happened on weekends and school days, often between 10 and 11 p.m.

He said they had intercourse and oral sex.

The boy also said that on one occasion at her parents' house, Amato gave him wine.

"I went to the liquor cabinet and was drinking," the boy said.

The boy said he told another teacher that he was having sex with Amato.

Amato surrendered to police on June 4 after one of her students reported having sex with his teacher on "several occasions."

The School District said Amato has been suspended without pay since June 9.

Jaycox hailed the boy for testifying in court. "It takes a lot of courage to come forward and testify," Jaycox said. "That's a courageous young man."

Judge Allan L. Tereshko scheduled an Aug. 14 arraignment for Amato on charges of statutory sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and related offenses.

A sixth-grade teacher in the rural northwest corner of Arkansas was arrested on Wednesday and charged with having multiple sexual encounters with a 13-year-old boy.

The teacher is 32-year-old Mary Faith McCormick, reports local CBS affiliate KFSM. She is a sixth-grade teacher at Siloam Springs Intermediate School.

Local police, who began investigating last week after receiving a few anonymous reports, say the forbidden love began on a dare. Specifically, one of the unnamed 13-year-old boy’s friends dared the kid to call McCormick. One thing led to another, and the 19 years separating McCormick and the student proved to be no physical barrier.

One of the trysts occurred after the boy and a friend took in a movie at McCormick’s residence. (It’s not clear if it was the same friend who proposed the dare.) Like a good wingman, the friend left after the flick was over. McCormick and her 13-year-old lover then allegedly had sex.

There’s also the very impressive trail of Snapchat messages, which includes nude photographs and much raunchiness.

A police investigation of McCormick’s Snapchat account uncovered a treasure trove of photos and videos related to the affair.

A 12-year-old female friend of the 13-year-old boy came across one of the Snapchat sessions when she was using the boy’s phone. Among the messages was a photo of McCormick wearing just a towel.

Another photo shows a pair of breasts that police believe belong to McCormick — but investigators say they can’t be sure.

An unidentified witness told police about a photo of McCormick — with wet hair and breasts mostly bare — and text reading. “I’m not dirty anymore,” according to the KFSM.

The CBS affiliate notes that McCormick is currently married and has a daughter. Her father is a teacher in the local school district.

The local police — or whoever attempted to mark out certain words — failed miserably in their redaction efforts.

Highlights include the 13-year-old boy telling police that he used Snapchat to send McCormick a picture of “his ‘boner.’”

The 12-year-old girl who borrowed the phone said she recalled a message on the photo-messaging application from McCormick to the 13-year-old that read “I want to climb your cock,” or something similar.

Also, the 13-year-old boy told police that McCormick had picked him up in her car just a couple weeks ago and drove him to a plot of land “where she is building her new house.” The teen then fondly reconstructed the events that transpired by explaining that McCormick was “sucking his dick.”

McCormick faces at least one felony rape count. She was released from jail on Thursday after posting bond of $50,000.

School district officials have suspended her with pay.

A former teacher at a Pennsylvania high school was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to having sex with students.

Lauren Harrington-Cooper taught English at Wyoming Valley West High School in Plymouth, Pennsylvania.

She was initially charged with institutional sex assault of two students, ages 18 and 17, but ultimately pleaded guilty to charges of felony sexual contact. She also pleaded guilty to two felony counts of corruption of a minor for "sexually explicit conversations" and inappropriate sexual contact with two other boys, 17 and 16.

She was sentenced to nine to 23 months in prison, according to Citizen's Voice. In addition to prison time, she was ordered to register as a sex offender and is prohibited from working with with children. She resigned from her position at the school in January, and her teacher's license was suspended in August.

Harrington-Cooper was investigated late last year after parents of the 18-year-old found inappropriate text messages on their son's phone. When questioned by police, the victim said he'd begun a relationship with the 31-year-old teacher after she texted the teen's sister and said that the teenaged boy was "hot." He said he'd had intercourse with her twice, and that the teacher had performed oral sex on him three times.

The teacher was arrested in December 2013, but faced additional charges in January, when a 17-year-old victim came forward. That boy told police that Harrington-Cooper had performed oral sex on him in a car, and that they had began texting each other in November of that year.

But those were not the last allegations against the teacher to surface. The corruption of minor charges stemmed from incidents in which prosecutors said Harrington-Cooper engaged in inappropriate activity in a classroom, showing one victim her breasts, and engaging in inappropriate contact with the other.

According to Citizen's Voice:

While school officials maintained they had no evidence of inappropriate contact taking place at school, police allege... one instance in which she allegedly told a student, “All the candy you need is right here.”
Prosecutors said the woman abused her position of power as a teacher.

Harrington-Cooper said little in court Friday, the paper reports, instead submitting a statement in which she said she regretted her actions and the damage she had done to her victims.

“She has been diagnosed with some significant psychological issues of inadequacy,” the woman's lawyer, Joe D’Andrea said. “You would think that she’s a pretty, young girl, that she would feel good about herself. But her self-esteem issues have really troubled her all of her life, and she found comfort and solace in some people giving her attention, as wrong as it was.”

He also said that the case has strained his client's marriage and family life.

Counseling makes sense. Probably more like like 2 years, suspended sentence, so the time never gets served if she doesn't screw up again.

I'm not a criminal lawyer, but I'm a big fan of suspended sentences. It's like a huge sword hanging over their head. If they don't screw up in the next X years, then it goes away. If they screw up again, then the suspended sentence IMMEDIATELY kicks in, AND they need to deal with the new screw up on top of it.

My guess is that if these were male teachers and 12 or 16 year old girls, the masses would be all for a public hanging of the male teachers in the town square. Just because they're teenage boys doesn't mean we should look at it through a softer lens.

I would honestly have the same opinion if the girls were of legal age in that state. Legal age means having the capacity, under the law, to engage in consensual sex. The punishment for that should be firing, and possible prohibition from future teaching positions, NOT jail.

The only other problem I have with statutory rape laws it that sometimes the "bright line" of the age of consent is a problem. If, hypothetically, the age of consent was 18, then an 18 year old boy getting busy with a 17 year old girl would face the exact same legal risks as a 45 year old boy getting it on with a 14 year old girl. Obviously, in sentencing that would be factored in, but the law was the same. At least some states modified their laws to have it reflect reality -- if the age of the two parties was closer, then it was no crime or a lesser crime. I don't know how many states adopted those types of provisions.

IMHO, however, having serious criminal liability for TEACHERS having sex with CONSENTING adults, because they are students, makes no sense.
