welcome to KC radio.

just wait until they return from commercials and spend 4 minutes talking about where they're broadcsting from and all the great specials etc.

Cassel single-handedly strung Romeo's defense out to dry in the two losses that turned our season south...Miami and Denver....

How can he possibly pick him?

I'm not sure Crennel would have taken the job if he has no say on the QB. We'll see if Cassel starts. The simple fact they were talking about a free-agent, Kyle Orton, suggests to me that Orton is the guy. Obviously, if Orton is re-signed, no way Cassel can beat him out.

Atcually , I don't really hate Pioli yet. But he needs to make a splash this year. I'm not so sure there wasn't some Pioli/Crennel backstabbing going on with Haley.

DaWolf 01-09-2012 02:06 PM

Yeah, let's get real here. NO ONE is going to be hired by an NFL team and then step into a news conference and start throwing existing players under a bus. No 1, that's bad form. No 2, you immediately lose a locker room if you do that.

The closest thing Romeo is going to get to saying something bad about a player was when he demoted Palko to third string and said "Well this is a production based game and I thanked Tyler for what he's done, but we're looking for more production from the QB so I'm going to give Kyle and Stanzi an opportunity to see what they've got."

The fact that there was not an unequivocal "Matt Cassel is the guy and we're going to ride him to the Super Bowl" statement in that news conference speaks volumes...

Chiefnj2 01-09-2012 02:08 PM

Right now Cassel is the only real QB on the roster. What the heck do people expect Romeo to say at this point? He might never get Orton even if that's who he prefers. Palko shouldn't be on an NFL roster, and for whatever reason Stanzi wasn't able to take a snap this year. Cassel is the only QB with game experience. He's not going to crap on the guy.

yep, any time a team doesn't say their starter is 100% their guy then he's more than likely on the way out.

What Crennel really just said was 'Cassel is my fallback guy in case i can't get a replacement. I don't want to burn that bridge yet'

Then he would get put back in....until he screwed up again and then he would get pulled. Quinn never really got an opportunity to "learn" from his mistakes. Then he gets traded to the Broncos....and he gets to sit behind Orton and Tebow. He was never really going to get a chance to compete in that situation.

Do I think Quinn is a Top 10 QB? No. But he can at least be a really good backup QB.

Fair enough. I have to admit to looking at the situation through orange colored glasses. I was curious about the gold colored view. :)

I wouldn't be opposed to BQ as a cheap back up.

Son of Packers offensive coordinator Philbin missing

The 21-year-old son of Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin has been reported as missing.

The Associated Press reports that Michael Philbin had been visiting friends in Oshkosh when he was last seen Sunday at 2. a.m. CT. He was reported missing on Sunday evening.

Michael Philbin spent six months in jail in 2009. He was convicted of sexually assaulting two young girls, along with two counts of battery.

Joe Philbin met with the Chiefs and Dolphins about their head coaching vacancy.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m. ET: Packers G.M. Ted Thompson released a statement on the matter.

“The Packers organization is aware of the missing person report regarding Michael Philbin, son of offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Philbin family during this difficult time. We ask anyone with information about Michael to contact the Oshkosh Police Department.”

He said the usual things about Cassel "We won with him, he got us to the playoffs". He won't flame him because he might need him if the Orton route does not work.

I think it's almost 50/50 with an edge to Orton.

It just came across to me as if he knows Pioli wants Cassel. It sounded like an obligatory peter-puffing of Cassel because he knows that's who Pioli wants.

Famous last words from Fat Scott during his introduction press conference in 2009:

"It's not about having the best people, It's about having the right people".

I.e. the "right people"... a cheap talent-less roster that keeps the Chiefs millions upon millions under the salary cap and a yes-man puppet for HC.

Welcome to Fat Scott's personal utopia of mediocre football.

True, but I liked the fact Haley is young. He didn't have a QB which makes it hard for any coach. Haley showed improvement from when he started. He settled down. He was a rookie coach who the Chiefs brought to the forefront and didn't stick with him. I would have liked to see what he could do with a good QB. I would have given him 1 more year. But that's just me. I still think could be good in time.

I'm not bitching though, people who know a whole hell alot more than me are making decisions. I just go by the gut feelings I have as a fan.

Of course he's not going to throw people under the bus. Nobody really wanted/expected that. Instead of saying very little when addressing players under contract that you're not pleased with, he went out of his way to say things that were not required by the question he was asked. If he's pleased with Cassel, this is a terrible hire.

It's like with the IRS and law enforcement. You answer the question they're asking...and provide ZERO additional information that could lead to other questions.

Doesn't have to throw anyone under the bus, but a statement about the overall importance of the QB position would have made me feel better. Something like, "This is a QB-driven league, so we need to ensure that we have a strong player under center."

Doesn't have to commit to a player or criticize one overtly.

This sentence is a show of support for the above sentiment.

Why? We have one of the best Gm's and D-Cordinators running the franchise now.

Pioli was fired today?

HAHA Clark Hunt isn't committed to winning? That's ridiculous!

Doesn't have to throw anyone under the bus, but a statement about the overall importance of the QB position would have made me feel better. Something like, "This is a QB-driven league, so we need to ensure that we have a strong player under center."

Doesn't have to commit to a player or criticize one overtly.

I am going to give RC a pass for today, since he wanted this job so bad and was obviously not wanting to start something on his first PC.

I feel really good that RC will not allow Cassel to keep him from being successful.

i'd say the Crennel Hiring went something like this:

Scott Pioli: Romeo you know if i hire you for the head coaching gig, you have to Play Cassel as the starting QB, right?

Crennel: Awww Man.

Scott Pioli: take it or leave it.

Crennel: wtf, it's better than being DC, i'll try it.

Glad to have him, I think it's the right chioce at this time. there's no way RAC's going play his hand yet. I donno why some seem to think the Crennel = Cassel

It's not so muc that Crennel=Cassel as it is Pioli=Cassel

I like the hire. I think the way he handled the QB situation over the past 3 weeks gives me hope that RAC sees the value of having a good QB and has the willingness to do what it takes to put that guy out there.

His determination to not go down the same road he went down in Cleveland tells me he's going to make the changes we need made. Both RAC and Scott Pioli know their jobs are on the line now.
