One person who hated Gio's bomb: Mike Mistake-as.

Him or Valencia? Both seem like solid upgrades.

fair point. they should both be active though, Moose should be down, and let Gio fight with Valencia over the 3B position.

Right and Gio also adds the ability to play 2nd which is nice since Valencia is horrible there. It will never happen but what about the loser of that battle platoon with Dyson at DH?

I hate to admit it, but Wade Davis is turning into a heck of a set-up man.

petegz28 05-11-2014 08:29 PM

The problem with Gia is he bats right handed. So does Valencia. Moosie is a lefty so Ned won't send him down because "we need someone to platoon at 3rd against RHP'ers"

Seriously. I'd pretty much written that dude off.

So you were held back a grade?

Now in 8th grade you can play for the High School Varsity team... Don't know if this was the case for him but that's how it is now.

Just in case anybody is taking that seriously, that is not really a consideration.

I know some like to mockingly paint Ned as some kind of tunnel-visioned lineup reerun, but it really isn't. You get your starting 9, and then lefty-righty becomes a consideration at that point. If Gio gets sent down instead of Moose then it will be because, incredibly, they really do think Moose should be expected to be a better player.

I can't believe Guthrie gave up 3 home runs and we still won. I'd almost rather have Chen starting than Guthrie at this point. He's shit.

I'd almost rather have Brett Tomko over the both of them.

Jesus Christ people, are we really complaining about Jeremy Guthrie? Yeah he pitched absolutely terrible yesterday, but that's the risk that comes from his pitching style. We know what Guthrie is, and we have known this for about 2 years now. He's either going to go out there and pop every batter on the opposition up or he's going to give up 2 or possibly 3 home runs in a game.

All I am saying is that even with his very poor performance yesterday, Jeremy Guthrie is not the problem of this team.

So what? The worst that can happen is that Gio and Valencia strike out as often as Moose does. Who cares? Moose is hitting below .150, and not even having to face left handed pitching. I'll bet Gio and Valencia can hit at least .200 against right handers.

Yes, yes he is. He now leads MLB in gopher balls with 11 in only 50 innings. 10 to LH hitters, who are just feasting on his weak sauce. He is throwing way too many pitches in the strike zone, Monty commented on this a few weeks ago. Guthrie has a 5.80 FIP right now and what's scary is his BABIP is only .256 so when that normalizes his actual ERA (4.80) is sure to rise to his FIP.

Let's talk about some seriously scary numbers from Mistake-as.

1) He is 1-15 vs LH (.083) and 15-106 vs RH (.155). So he cannot even hit RH.

2) He only has 15 AB vs LH this year. The Royals have already made him a strict platoon player without formally announcing it. They know the truth even if they're not saying it.

3) With 3 ball counts, which are major hitter counts, here's his breakdown:
3-0 (1-5)
3-1 (1-7)
3-2 (1-14)
3 ball counts (3-26) .115 avg

4) On 2-0 counts he's 4-19 (.211) with 1 HR. So even in the prime hitting count where fastballs come, he can't even get hits!
