Tyler Bray is so good after 3 years in the NFL that they signed Nick Foles as Alex Smith's backup. If you are the future of the franchise you should at least be second string after 3 years in the league.

ILChief 01-17-2017 09:01 PM

Why not?

Hydrae 01-17-2017 09:14 PM

Everyone keeps wanting us to develop a QB. I think he should be well developed by now. ;)

By the time his head comes around his arm is going to be dead.

No.

KChiefs1 01-18-2017 09:17 AM

I'd say this is his last year in the league or at least on the Chiefs.

Wish we could flip him for a draft pick.

I enjoy watching him play. He has been in Reid's system, stretches the field, has good touch, and has the goldfish mentality to move on from mistakes.

I now understand why you don't know jack shit about QB's; you don't know what to look for.

You focus on the negative while completely ignoring that Bray just pulled two plays out of his ass, with a confidence, form, and gusto that Alex never, ever will.

When you are the QB that is not getting the reps and the time with the 1's, how in the holy **** are you going to get in to a rhythm and grow/mature?
I would gladly take an entire SEASON of pants-shitting in the name of developing raw talent.
When you flash the kind of talent that Bray( or god-willing a premium, first-round pick )has shown, THAT is the guy you want to be putting your time and effort in to, NOT the aging, middling, game-manager with happy feet.

Meh. I'm good with it. They have only 1 QB on the roster, and the 3rd guy was always going to be a rookie of some sort.

What veterans are out there that know Reid's system, are young and dirt cheap?

“The Bears will re-sign third-string quarterback Tyler Bray to a one-year deal, ESPN reported.

Bray, 28, has been with coach Matt Nagy since he was with the Chiefs and spent nearly all of last season on the practice squad. He has played one game since reaching the NFL in 2013 and has never thrown a pass.

Bray will work behind Mitch Trubisky and newly acquired quarterback Nick Foles. His future with the team would be in question, though, if it drafts a quarterback next month.”

Maybe when camp starts. But I'm confident that he can compete for the job against Trubisky and Foles. He's the only quarterback who ever came into the game to replace a healthy Patrick Mahomes II.

Every time an expert mentions a top prospect having a "cannon arm" that can make any throw on the football field I think of Bray.

Just because they can make every throw doesn't mean they will.

Chicago will be riddled with QB injuries this year, Bray will hold the fort down just long enough for Foles to swoop in at the last minute and lead da Bears to da Promised Land

Bray is back in the NFL with the 49ers signing him to their practice squad.

Nice description of his NFL career from the SF Chronicle.

Link: https://www.sfchronicle.com/sports/4...p-16737244.php

Quote:

Bray has spent his career with the Chiefs (2013-2017) and Bears (2018-2020). His regular-season playing experience includes nine snaps, four in a game with the Chiefs in 2017 and five in a game with the Bears in 2020.

On his first snap, in the 2017 regular-season finale, he fumbled a handoff, which was returned for a 38-yard touchdown in Kansas City’s win over Denver.

Cheater5 12-29-2021 09:35 PM

Wasn’t Bray also somewhat of a dum-dum? Like, he had problems grasping the playbook (along with the exchange with the center)?

I also recall he had a terrible neck-beard at one point, and resembled Mose Shrute.

rico 12-29-2021 09:50 PM

I freaking loved watching this dude in a few of the early on preseason games. Especially that one against the Packers. Talented as hell, but was very immature in college and in his early pro career.

If this guy found an opportunity somewhere, like if he somehow works up the depth chart at SF and gets a chance… It wouldn’t surprise me a bit if he wasn’t bad. If the guy has matured and if he is dedicated, he could surprise people if the stars align perfectly, IMO…. The talent is there. I would love to see him do something cool in the NFL after all these years. I’m rooting for him.

Was never a fan of watching Alex Smith play QB, but holy cow was he ever good with the young QB’s. We all know how good he was with the Patrick Mahomes situation, but along with that, I think it’s highly unlikely that Tyler Bray would still be in the NFL today without the influence/tutelage of Alex Smith. Smith is definitely a good guy for that.

Remember when Mahomes dominated the Broncos, they let Bray play to mop it up, he totally ****ed it up, and then they put Mahomes back in to fix Bray’s mess and the legend of Mahomes was born?

That’s pretty much guaranteed to be a Jeopardy trivia question at some point.

I was thinking of that game this morning. 4 years ago we ended our season in Denver and a rookie QB started that game and became a legend. This year we end the season in Denver again but there is a good chance that same legendary QB may not even play. :)

The drafted/developed, stud, starting QB was such an overwhelming longing for many that we wanted to see potential greatness in every mediocre to average to "never-will-be" QB. Legends of guys that "got away" can be wrapped into this discussion as well (Geno, etc.).

I'll be the first to admit i was guilty of this. I was so burnt out from years of turds, then years of Alex Smith being overly conservative when it really mattered. The year we had like an 11 minute drive when we needed two scores in the 4th to win in NE was the final straw for me. I wanted a gun slinger and was ready to live by the sword or die by the sword.
