Never mind. Good defense.

Dylan 09-22-2014 09:41 PM

Wow... I thought the Jets would get in the endzone.

Reerun_KC 09-22-2014 09:41 PM

Geno!!!!

'Hamas' Jenkins 09-22-2014 09:41 PM

To hit Kerley in the back of the endzone he'd have to flip his hips and throw against his momentum. He wasn't really in line with his throwing lane, it would have been throwing against his body.

The Franchise 09-22-2014 09:42 PM

Geno will have a decent career.

He was open presnap as well.

How did the Jets not rip apart that Bears secondary that was playing a ton of backups and getting very little pressure?

Single read QBs are a real liability in the red zone.

Sixty percent completions for 316 yards isn't a bad night's work when it comes to moving the ball.

This is certainly true. That's why Morninwheg should have added a designed run or screen into his playcalling down there.

With 2 INTs, one a pick 6, and several more throws that should have been picked off but weren't.

Simply Red 09-22-2014 09:46 PM

The Bears were looking good - Lots of players down though. Looks like that may clearly hurt them, moving forward.

I like Cutler though.

gregg rosenthal ‏@greggrosenthal 1m

Geno has been remarkably consistent this year. Each game has included enough good moments to make excuses for the huge mental errors.

He's right. But here's the thing, as a second year QB, you've got to expect that to be a possibility and put him in a position to not make said mistakes and grow.

Don't know if I'd say that.

It's just a situation where a team drafted a player with a skillset that matches perfectly with what they want him/will have him do.

Absolutely.

If Geno had a good coaching situation, he'd be in a much better situation.

Hootie 09-22-2014 09:54 PM

I just looked into that Fuller family...

Good lord. Talk about athletic DNA. A safety, a receiver, a 1st round corner, and another corner on the way.

This place is just ****ing moronic anymore.

Alex Smith has three guys collapse in on his right side and people bitch him out for not finding an open man in the game thread.

Geno Smith plays an uneven game but does put up over 300 yards and people talk about him like he was Ryan Leaf in Arrowhead.

It's just rank stupidity.

Dayze 09-22-2014 09:56 PM

Geno would be a ****ing disaster behind our line.

The Jets probably have one of the top 5 OLs in the NFL and he still throws picks like it's part of the gameplan. He seriously should have had 5 INTs tonight.

Agreed. However, Mornhinweg likes to sling the ball - Ivory running the ball was working but Mornhinweg would rather throw the ball around...That is exactly what he did as the Eagles offensive coordinator.

I'm not sure who you're referring to but I like to call them like I see them...

So far this year...Alex Smith has been incredibly boring and a big ball of 'meh.' He's good at leading a running team...but he literally makes no plays with his arm, and is merely good at getting the ball to his backs or tight ends...might as well not even give the guy a receiver.

Geno has flashed, but he's just so inconsistent, and he makes such incredibly dumb plays, that I just don't ever see him becoming a franchise QB...and after all, that is the point, right?

It's kind of like Alex Smith, and Andy Dalton, and Geno Smith, and etc...

All of them win games at times, and look good at times...but they all have those flaws that make you think, "nope, not gonna happen."

and for the last 8 years on this board EVERYONE has wanted to find that Andrew Luck in the draft...and yet we're still debating about Geno Smith?

I mean, come on. Geno, Alex...both have enough flaws that you're never going to win anything meaningful unless you either get copious amounts of Flacco luck or build a totally ELITE team around them (top 3 defense, great OL, great offensive weapons)...

In the last several drafts these are the only QB's that mean anything:

Russell Wilson
Andrew Luck
Colin Kaepernick
Cam Newton

The other guys like Geno? Who gives a shit?

Geno is a single read QB. He won't progress beyond where he's at until he learns to read defenses. There has never been a top 5 single read QB in the history of the game.

Alex is better at reading, but is too slow. Think of someone who moves his lips as he reads. His legs make up for it to a degree, some of that is offset by average pocket presence -- not having a good intuition about when to run and when to stay put. He's good enough to win with if surrounding talent is very high. I don't think he gets intrinsically better at this stage of his career -- he might have a few games like the Colts game, but clearly that was an outlier performance.

Dylan 09-22-2014 10:05 PM

I guarantee the 49ers wish they had Alex Smith.

Watching the 49ers, Kaepernick cannot change the ball trajectory at all.

Just my opinion.

Well, no offense...but you're wrong.

Alex Smith has already reached his ceiling.

Colin Kaepernick has an incredibly high ceiling, and he's still already more valuable to his team than Alex Smith is to his team...despite the somewhat rocky start.

The 49ers are going to be fine. Arizona and Chicago are really good teams.

They are going to win 10 games, maybe 11.

...and Colin has had two straight really good postseasons...

so I have a hard time trying to figure out why people on this site think Alex Smith is even in the same stratosphere as Colin Kaepernick as a QB...but hey, whatever

It took Alex Smith how many seasons to become the Alex Smith chiefs fans know and love? (lol)

For Geno Smith's sake, I hope he can become Alex Smith level a lot quicker, because NY will toss him out half way into this season.

I just don't get how a guy who goes into Seattle last year and is a Sherman "all-time great" play away from leading his team to back to back Super Bowls isn't more valuable to his team than Alex Smith.

I mean, we're talking about a guy who outplayed Aaron Rodgers in two straight playoff wins...

three weeks ago Philip Rivers was the worst QB ever against Arizona as he "choked the game away"

It's actually pretty entertaining. Shit, Clay just flushed a 2 year obsession down the toilet after 1 somewhat bad game by Geno.

Kaepernick 09-22-2014 10:22 PM

The Refs handed that game to the Bears on a silver platter. The Jets won that game except for the timely penalties by the Refs to save the Bears.

I guess it is just Cutler's year to be given a super bowl.

Kaepernick 09-22-2014 10:24 PM

As I predicted. Every thread ends up an Alex thread. Sorry to see.

Dylan 09-22-2014 10:25 PM

I've watched the 49ers this season - They are not the same team as in the past two seasons. Sometimes the window is open for only so long.

Kaepernick is having a lot of trouble converting third downs. Not sure why Harbaugh moved away from the running game. They rely more on five-receiver sets -

It has been reported that the 49ers have been outscored 52-3 in the second half this season.

Hootie 09-22-2014 10:26 PM

Heck of an argument.
I watched the games. He ran great in 2 games but his passing
45-82 576 yards 3-3
A ill-advised pass late in Green Bay was inches away from a pick that would of given the game away.
A pass was so off in the Carolina game he was lucky to not have thrown an INT that would start the Panthers in the redzone.

And how about the 4th quarter from hell @ SEA Fumble Interception Interception
