Their career numbers are extremely similar. They're worth about the same. Miller just happened to play very well in their playoff run while Houston didn't have the opportunity. Let's not forget that Miller missed a previous Super Bowl run for the Broncos. |
At this point it's not fair to say Houston hasn't lived up to his contract. He was on pace for 11 sacks (same as Von).
He's not injury prone. A team mate leg whipping him is a freak occurrence. If he shows a big slump this year then sure, but otherwise he's just as good as Von. 50% pressure rate on 3rd down with Houston on the field last year (2nd in NFL) and that's with Sutton dropping him into coverage. Well worth the $$. |
Houston was injured so who knows what he would done. Miller is getting elite qb money. Only Luck got a little more. Miller will never live up to that contract. Only a qb could.

I really thought we would here some good news today with progress but it's all bad. I am afraid Berry will be gone next year for sure. Real bummer.
|
David Glass was/is a big fan of Alex Gordon. You could see it in his voice when he spoke about Gordon. Subsequently, Gordon was given a long term deal. Are the Clarks as enamored with Berry? If so, a deal will get done. Period.
Moral to this story: What an owner wants, an owner gets. |
The Raiders won't be signing any major FA's from this point on. Derek Carr is going to get $20 million and Justin Houston will look like aan extreme bargain when Khalil Mack gets an even bigger contract than Von Miller soon.

Dorsey does have a history of overpaying players to appease the fans, just look at Dwayne Bowe. If Elway was concerned with keeping the fans happy he would've kept Tebow, Julius Thomas, Decker, and Brock... but he didn't because he knows what he's doing. |
Quote:
Hali is about done, too. Given the Chiefs inability to find another edge rusher during Dorsey's tenure, it would be surprising if Houston ever saw as much traffic funneled his way due to a complementary presence. I expect Houston to be a solid 8-10 sack guy the rest of his career. Hopefully. |
Quote:
Although the Bowe deal appeared exorbitant, it was more driven by lack of depth at the position, a weak FA receiver class and a weaker draft class at receiver. The fact Dorsey structured to get out of the Bowe commitment showed he knew what he was dealing with and assessed his new team roster admirably. Branden Albert was proved unreliable, and in a terrible year to be picking 1 overall, the Fisher pick is not looking as bad as the chicken littles made it out to be. I like our GM fine. You'll see how good Elway/Kubiak are without the Manning farewell nod this year. Better hope Wade Phillips has all his defensive toys to play with, because that offense will be ASS. |
John Elway is paying Demaryius Thomas $15 million and CJ Anderson $6 million this season. Not to mention $4 million to Donald Stephenson.
Yeah that's not significantly overpaying for overrated players now is it? Dorsey is paying Jeremy Maclin, Jamaal Charles and Mitchell Schwartz all less $$ at the same position and they are better players LMAO |
Quote:
He's nothing without Manning's bargaining weight...when they miss the play-offs this season, you'll realize this. Teams are going to stack the box and make Sanchez beat them...good luck with that. |
Since 2012 no WR in the NFL has more receiving yards than DT. LMAO
CJ's contract was structured purposefully to have a high first year salary, he'll only be making $3M next year. And Stephenson is a cheap rental who has some upside in our zone scheme. If he works out great, if not he's still better than the guys we started in the Super Bowl. |
Quote:
Fans are already regretting DT...wishing they would have signed Sanders instead. The guy drops all kinds of shit and disappears in big games. |
In all the interviews I don't think I've heard berry thank KC or the Chiefs for supporting him through his cancer fight. I guess they were not there everyday but didn't we pay his million dollars worth of salary ?
Hope he stays in KC I think he is a great leader and gives the defense a lift spiritually |

And good luck getting Sanchize to hit the same windows to Thomas that Peyton did, lol. |

Good Lord. You misspelled injured. That's ridiculous. Watt is a better player than either Miller or Houston. It takes a ****ing team to get to and win a playoff game, bro. |
Last 2 years:
Demaryius Thomas-17 TD's, 2,923 yards, 18 drops Jeremy Maclin-18 TD's, 2,406 yards, 2 drops Thomas has some of the worst hands in football. Maclin has more TD's while Thomas has 9X as many drops. Thomas also had 93 more targets than Maclin in that timeframe. |
Quote:
Playing with Manning made Thomas look a lot better than he really is. He's still a really good #1 though. |
DT is bigger, stronger, faster, and more durable than Maclin is. DT also had one of the worst years of his career last year and he still had 300 more yards than Maclin had.
Where did Maclin rank on the top 100? The players voted DT at #62. |
Quote:
Who gives a **** what the player voted? DT is still getting too much credit for the Peyton years, because he certainly wasn't the better player last year. Maclin is faster, a better route runner, and has the best hands in the NFL. Those are higher priorities than size and strength at the WR position IMO. |

Come on Berry. Give us some love like we gave you.
Just for the record. Thomas has turned out to be a turd. Drops all over the place like Bowe and is getting slower by the minute. |
Quote:
First, very few players ever 'improve' on their breakout season and what are the odds that Houston ever gets better than 22 sacks. But the biggest concern is the history of injuries and the toll they take. Fluke or no, anytime you go under the knife, your body is fundamentally altered and isn't ever exactly what it was. Now even if you function similarly, the odds of you functioning for as long are diminished. He's now had a couple of knee injuries and sooner or later, those will come back to get him. He's not old, but he's 27 now and things will start to be just a little harder from this point forward. His body will recover just a little slower. His burst will start to wane just a little bit. It'll be a little harder to keep weight on during the season or maintain his form during the off-season. He's unlikely to hit a wall, but he's probably 2 years away from starting a noticeable decline and if one of those years is impacted by his continued attempts to come back from his knee, then the window to get value from that contract continues to diminish. And people keep wanting to argue that it's not fair to say he hasn't lived up to his contract - of course it is. This is a snapshot view and to this point he hasn't. Worse still, it was the cheapest year of his deal that he didn't live up to. As his cap figure gets higher and higher, his performance will have to get better and better to compensate for it. Houston earned his deal. The Chiefs weren't foolish in offering it to him by any means. But there's still a good chance that he simply doesn't live up to it. That's reality. |
Quote:
Dorsey got lucky - the end. Bowe's 2016 salary was guaranteed unless he got suspended. Then he got suspended. Had Bowe simply continued to be a bad football player, we'd have been stuck with him on the cap last year and wouldn't have had J-Mac. You're right that Dorsey had very little choice but to keep Bowe around given the dearth of talent he inherited from that fat ****ing fraud before him, but he absolutely lucked out when Bowe smoked his way into a suspension. |

I'm not sure in the modern medicine world. There's a breaking point age, just as there's always been, but I think it's more 32 33 than 30 anymore. Especially with how these guys are (specifically houston) in the offseason. |

I'd rather keep him at FS. He's got all the tools to be elite at that position, which likely has more value in this league, if he isn't already. |
You all keep suggesting that Berry is better at FS or SS or box safety or whatever. How about the OTHER guys out there? What are their strong suits? If Berry's as good as advertised, shouldn't it be easier to put him just about anywhere and line up the rest of the secondary where THEY play best???

3 hours to go. I say no deal. Don't want to but it just feels like it's not happening.

But it sure doesn't look like Berry has any interest in signing that. The delay here sure points to 'highest paid safety in football' demands. And if those are the demands, trade him. |
Doesn't look good at all to let Eric Berry walk. Won't settle well with other good players like MP22 and Houston. The guy is the leader of this team. Letting a model player who is damn good at his job just walk out the door is bad business.
It will absolutely have an affect on the team. |
Quote:
Berry has ALL the leverage here. The Chiefs have three choices with him... - pay him what he wants - let him play on the franchise tag and do this all over again next year (and risk him sitting out the first ten games) - trade him That's it. Berry has the Chiefs by the short and curlies, and they know it. they are going to let him play on the tag this year because they don't want to sign him long term. They're going to give him the Brandon Albert treatment, you watch. |
