They installed a heater under the field and what's wrong with playing in the elements? It's football not baseball.

I wanna see the best players in the world play at their highest abilities. That can't happen in a mudpit or a snowbowl.

I'm not a fan of the elements etc argument.

Yeah, there are about 50 tickets per section open on Stubhub. I don't think the storm will be that bad... (famous last words)

Some of the iciest roads I ever drove on happened at 36°. It had been cold and then a warm, wet system came in. It rained because the air aloft was warm but the surfaces had been superchilled so that rain turned to ice when it hit something. The roads were black ice with water on top. It was terrible.

This could be one of those, 'Here, Hold My Beer" games.

Actually, we get something fairly frequently in the late fall that I don't understand. It will be in the upper 30's and rain during the night. Then, right before dawn, it will clear up. Then, even though the temp never drops blow the upper-30's, every thing will flash over into ice. I'll be out chipping thick ice off of the car in the morning, even though the temp is 36°.

This. If someone wants to fly me and my wife out there we'll go as KC surrogates. I'll yell my guts out. I want to see a KC rematch at Foxborough dang it!

I think that the players and coaches are turning their tickets for family and friend back to the box office. Many great unsold tickets were newly listed today in the Lower Level. Still can't believe they haven't dropped the price on those unsold Club Level tickets. Still $425

Any thoughts on the potential ice storm this weekend?
 

I'm about 200 miles away, season ticket holder & go to 4-5 games per year. Been watching weather & it's driving me nuts, hard to get excited for what should be best arrowhead atmosphere in a LONG time. I just reserved rooms in KC for Saturday night. Gonna head down day before then hope we can get to stadium at least. This isn't looking good....

I would say the worse it'll be is 20k Pitt fans and 55k KC fans. I just don't see it topping that.

What day are you leaving? Today? I was thinking of leaving tomorrow around noon so I could arrive in KC before it starts. After looking at Joplin forecast, that crap is supposed to hit there mid afternoon tomorrow. Now I am bumfuzzeled because it looks like I will be driving through it to get to KC if I leave early.

One of the slickest roads I ever drove on was I-29 coming back from Omaha. The outside temp was 41, but it was raining nothing but freezing rain and sleet. Something about it being cold right above ground level so it fell frozen. It would land and melt, but the other frozen precip would hit the melted ice on the road and just made everything slicker than whale shit in the Arctic Ocean. Fun times, those.

Got a room at the Argosy Casino for after the game.

Getting to Arrowhead may be a bitch but its going to warm up enough there shouldn't be significant ice anywhere.

Leave early to get there and drive slow.

There are Steeler fans everywhere. Some will probably already be in KC, but I actually wonder if the ice will keep some of them away.

Still three days to go. The way they're talking, I don't think the wind is going to be high enough to really make this a devastating storm. But we're talking about the football game here. Even if this thing shifts north or south and amounts are less, even a 0.10" icing will make getting to the game and sitting out there a pretty miserable experience. There's no such thing as a good ice storm.

Honestly - I'd be surprised if that weren't the case. There must have been 15k Chief fans when I went to the GA Dome a few weeks back.

I don't want to lose power. That's a little more important than being miserable at a game.

Has anyone else noticed on the noaa site for '72-Hour Probability of Freezing Rain Accumulating' that the cold pattern looks like a goat? Just sayin. :evil:

All I can say is for those that are going to layer and layer until they eventually can barely walk, much like the younger brother in A Christmas Story.

They'd never do this because of TV, but given the forecast maybe they should consider moving this game from noon until 7 or 8 PM. It's supposed to warm up during the day, but that's not going to help people trying to get there before noon.

Just do it like they do the Saturday games. One at 3:30 and the other at 7:15 PM central. Then again, if the storm is worse than expected that might make things worse.

It's going to be really bad. You have to think about how hard you are going to work just to do something that is supposed to be fun. I am going to kick it with my 71 inch tv and all the cold beer and whiskey I can handle. If the game sucks I can always get some things done in the garage so my whole day isn't shitty. That way when Monday comes around I am ready to kick ass!

National Weather Service just issued an Ice Storm Warning for Greater KC area for Friday night through Sunday Morning. Expecting anywhere from 1/4" of ice up at St. Joe to as much as an inch or more south of KC around Belton. A half inch of ice can start breaking power lines and tree limbs. Imagine what the parking lots, sidewalks, stairs, seats at Arrowhead would be like with 1/2" of ice everywhere. This could be a serious, serious problem, and a major safety concern trying to get 70,000 fans into Arrowhead covered with ice. I just hope nobody gets killed trying to go to a Chiefs game.

If it's really as bad as it's looking to be, NFL should consider moving the game to Monday Night. Weather is supposed to warm on Monday.

They have issued an ice storm warning for this weekend.

I don't know why they wouldn't move it to prime time if there is the threat of a half of inch of ice.

I just talked to the Chiefs. They said they've been talking to MoDot and KDot about roads around Arrowhead, and pretty much no matter what happens they're playing at noon Sunday. They may have 1,000 accidents in the parking lot, and dozens of people injured from falls on ice, but from the tone of the guy I talked to, sounds like they don't give a shit. It's buyer beware.

In case the power goes out I have a shit load of peanut butter, 2 loaves of bread, ramen, some oatmeal, some canned food, and a propane grill out on the deck(covered!) that I can use if I need to heat something up.

I can hunker down for a couple of days. If it gets too cold with no power(hence no heat) it's 2 pairs of sweats, 3-4 shirts, 2 hoodies, and 5 pairs of socks time.

I'm not near as worried about the drive to KC as I am the condition of the Arrowhead parking lots and stairs. Skating the parking lot will not be fun.

Just a note for the concerned. Accumulation estimates are based on untreated roads. You can expect I-70 and 435 to be passable with reduced speeds and caution. If you have concerns about your transportation, map a route that avoids smaller streets (for instance probably the 31st street approach from KC will be much tougher than the highways.)

Today's MODOT report says they are pretreating unlike last month. I couldn't get through to arrowhead to ask if they treat the parking lot and gate roads.

Coming from downtown KC, nearly all of my route is on I-70 so I remain optimistic for my chances to get in safely to the game.

Its not the leaving that is giving me worries its the getting back. Pretreating roads doesn't do shit when its freezing rain.

As long as the winds aren't strong enough to blow the material off the road and it's not an outright downpour, the rain won't be that big of an issue as long as they are out there reapplying the whole time. Salt water still melts ice.

I went to a game with a similar situation many years ago against Denver. I remember icicles were hanging down from the ribbon board around the middle deck. It was really cold, everything was coated with about a 1/4" glaze of solid ice. Seats were frigid, like sitting on a block of ice.

I've noticed Lezak has had a tendency to soften forecasts for Chiefs home games, maybe at the request of the Chiefs. Then you don't get the real story until about four hours before kickoff....

That said, I hope he's right. But I trust what the NWS says more.

If the Gov. Of Missouri declares a state of emergency, wouldn't the game have to be moved?

He's played it conservative all week, which is probably smart since ice is such a tricky thing. You have to thread that needle between rain and snow.

Plus as much as people bag on the weatherman, if he calls for a big storm and it falls through, he'll probably take more heat than if he plays it safe. Unless of course this turns into a crippling ice storm. But the odds are that won't happen.
