Those training camp drills were on the game in 2006, basically everything they add "new" for franchise was there in the PS2 days then taken off and half of those things have never been brought back.

Being real with you, you really should try some of the other major sports franchise games instead of choosing to be ignorant.

It wasn't until i started playing other sports games that i realized how badly Madden really was lacking. They're half assing this game and have been for years now. It's not until you see alternative products that you really get a sense of what's capable for an NFL game.

As the old saying goes, "you don't know what you don't know".

Madden was the favorite game for ALL OF US growing up, not just you.

You act like we say these things as haters. We're not. We say this as lovers of the franchise who want it to return to glory and be what current tech could allow it to be.

It's the most popular sport in the country, so people will always be buying it. And it has no competition, so EA has no real need to make something great. Everyone's fear about the licensing deal EA made with the NFL has come to fruition.

If people don't demand that it be as great as it can be, it will always play 2nd fiddle to superior games that are based on inferior sports. That's a damn shame. And you sit here giving it a pass.

If more people demanded as much from Madden as you do Star Wars or Indiana Jones then maybe EA would give us a better game.

Lmfao ESPN 2K5 on the PS2 is still better than the current Madden. It was also the catalyst for EA to shit down their leg when 2k5 was sold at 19.99 price point, and so they secured exclusive NFL rights, ensuring that they never had to you know, actually put any effort into their product, because had that developer gotten to continue making football games with the NFL rights, Madden would be ancient history by now.

No custom teams and franchise is still broken, so....

If 2k had the license that's the football game we'd have. A deep, customized, legit Sim franchise. That's what's so frustrating.

You could literally play player lock like a road to the show type career and just control your guy on your team if you want.

Oh...and I could also change the rules and the SIM STATS REFLECTED IT! Turned the shot clock down for a change of pace and stats exploded for a few seasons till I changed it back. Draft options? Yes fully customizable lottery.

I played player lock on a completely created team and over time added expansion to the league and changed rules every few seasons or so for variance.. What a blast...

The profile system 2k5 had was awesome as well
The more you played on it, the more it logged your play selections, tendencies, and run/pass percentages.

My buddy used to come over all the time to play the game, and when he wasn't there, I was able to load his profile and play against the cpu with his tendencies. It was ****ing awesome.

Butker seems to be the worst ranking. I know he had some struggles last year, mostly due to injury, but he deserves higher than a 78.

Kickers and punters are just really underrated in general. Townsend was the second highest rated punter in the game last year at an 83. Can't remember off the top of my head the only one above him but he was at an 84 or 85. Butker WAS way up there too, only substantially behind Tucker, but yeah, he dropped off hard. 87 to 78.

81 and 80 is actually quite generous for a couple of dudes who have proven next to nothing in the NFL.

Toney is relatively unproven and oft-injured. He’s almost purely potential so I’d say an 81 is decent.

Pacheco was a non-factor for half the season and then split carries the last half of the year. I’d say an 80 is spot on, if not a little generous.

Gay at 75 seems OK for me. He’s still unproven so I wouldn’t feel right having him above a 79.

Trey Smith has some warts and inconsistencies. An 82 feels right for him.

Humphrey is your best case here. He’s elite so he could easily be a 93-95.

They’re just not going to have all of our guys stacked up with 90+ overalls.

They had Gay at below 70 until well into the second half of last season. He's the one I think they constantly underrate.

Gay is a tough rate. He’s athletically gifted, so much so that you’d just assume he’d take over every game he plays in, but he doesn’t. He’s still learning and is a bit inconsistent.

I feel like a 75-79 rating with insane measurable like speed, acceleration, etc. is the best spot for Gay.

Watching a bit of footage and the Chiefs have a pretty damn good playbook this year. Also seems like they've reversed course on QBs not being able to scramble as effectively. Kind of insane how fast Mahomes is in the pocket compared to last year.

I was almost thinking about grabbing Madden this year. Glad Balders Gate 3 comes out in like 3 weeks, I'll just get a game that's actually good instead.

Got in my first 2 games of online, and fair to say I’m enjoying it so far. The gameplay isn’t total garbage but there’s a few bugs like always.

I did have a situation last night where the passer threw the ball with his body beyond the LOS and it fell incomplete anyways and they gave him the first down as a rushing play lol.

Then I went to OT with the same guy and I scored a TD immediately, I completely forgot about the OT rule change for 2023. I was like why the hell am I having to play defense.

Regardless I didn’t hate it, the gameplay is better than it was 2 years ago or last year even (I played about 3 games total the last 2 years). EA themselves are shitbags though.

Whenever Clay is ready to get wrecked again he can send me a game invite.

LMAO The rubber banding is incredibly blatant. Probably the worst I've seen out of a Madden

There's one pretty nasty bug but for pre day one patch the gameplay is actually pretty damn good relative to past Maddens.

Running as a whole feels better even though the run blocking AI is still pretty bad. Noticed a lot less of those suction tackles especially where it'd lock you into an animation.

Passing is more mixed for me. They sort of had to address the High Pass meta but they've overnerfed it into not being viable at all. Also not completely any catches that are even slightly contested once I'm up to a certain extent. Need to tune the rubber banding so it's not THAT blatant. QB movement in the pocket is much better though. Nice balance between the Escape Artist days and every QB moving like a sloth in 23.

At least we can agree this year was improvement gameplay wise. I’m actually going to get back to playing consistently like I did back in the day. The game needs some patching but I can deal with the issues at the moment. The last 2/3 years were unplayable for me.

Actually need stick skills again. When they made the jump to Next Gen and leaned heavily into the 'realistic' momentum cuts were pretty much non-existent unless you were outright juking. Now you can actually turn pretty well even without it. Makes those end around and stretch plays more interesting.

The only really bad bug right now is not being able to edit players, at all. For some reason it ****s with their years in the league and a lot of the time it bumps them up to 31 years played and they'll immediately retire after one season of franchise regardless of what their actual time is.

Quite a bit of wonkiness in game as well but that's to be expected when we're not even at day one patch yet. There have been years where the game was legitimately unplayable because of game breaking bugs and luckily this year doesn't seem to have any that are easily repeated.

How's defensive AI though? I couldn't give much of a shit about offensive AI because there's always ways to score in this game.

The pass rush is much more realistic. I like the OL/DL interactions for the most part. Especially on the edge. Interior DL feels like it needs some work. The AI is hit or miss on the backend. I’m not going to totally hate on it, because it is improved from the previous shit. Far from ideal imo.
