Pretty impressive, but I honestly expected it.

Good day for the SEC as well. 3-0 today and have 6 teams in the Sweet 16, tying the all time record (ACC had 6 teams in 2016).

Ole Miss plays tonight for a chance at #7, although I don’t see them beating Iowa State.

Maryland with the buzzer beater. Great game. Also means no one lower than a 10 seed will be in the Sweet 16. Arkansas made it, New Mexico is the only double digit seed left and they're playing right now.

I picked Maryland in my bracket but I wanted Colorado St to win. They were a fun team to watch.

As it stands now, the only double digit seed in the sweet 16 is Arkansas. New Mexico is giving MSU a game. It's as chalky as I've ever seen it.

Didn’t expect Iowa State to lay a turd and Ole Miss to shoot 60% from 3.

Looks like the SEC may get that record after all.

Rough night for the Big 12.

14 teams from SEC got in. Looks like 7 could make it to the Sweet 16. If that holds, that's 50%

UK has gotten farther than I expected, so congrats and good job there. I didn't expect them to make it to the Sweet 16. But when they drew Illinois, I knew it was very possible, because of how athletic Kentucky is, and how that's so not the case with illinois.

No one’s won shit, gotta do it two more weekends to prove anything.

That said, seven teams from one conference in the Sweet 16 is pretty damn impressive.

Man I'm listening to the talking heads, and they're talking about you can't tell when he had total possession of the ball and took his steps. And I'm wondering WTF they're looking at?? Not only is that false, you can clearly see it in real time, and especially if you put it in slow motion. I guess they think if enough people "who know" say it, they can get people to doubt themselves. Who knows? All I know was that by every defination before today's, it was traveling.

Having said that, it's a prime example of why teams that lose games on plays like that, need to do more in those games beforehand, to not leave the outcome in the hands of the refs. That's in every sport.

It wasn’t a travel. It was 2 steps and he dribbled on what seems like the first step.

The bigger error is there still should have been .2 or .3 left on the clock for CSU. Almost no time, but still.

Agree to disagree. Imo, 100% travel and its not that close... 10 years ago, before all this "Euro Step" BS, that has infiltrated the NBA, and is trying to make its way to college basketball, I bet many would have a different interpretation.

It's noteworthy that it's all pre-2012 SEC teams, too... obviously as conferences get larger, records like that will get broken more frequently (especially when you let in 14 teams, even if they went 6-12 in conference  ), but I believe the 2012+ acquisitions went 1-4 the first weekend, too.

Correct.

The most recent addition that won over the weekend was Arkansas, who joined in the early 90’s.

Oh. Gotcha...Man, I totally misread your post. Sorry...Yes, they do. I had Tech as my sleeper team, and Florida survived "that game" that many champions point to as being critical in their quest to win it all...And Duke definately looks like the team to beat. After them, you got about 4 or 5 that could win it, makes no difference on any seeding.

To be fair, the only programs worth a shit historically for basketball based on success from the old guard SEC are Kentucky, LSU, and maybe Alabama.

Florida has no notable history prior to Kruger and Auburn and Tennessee success is all within the last 20 years.

PHOG 03-24-2025 02:13 PM

Billy Donovan back-to-back ('06-'07) probably disagrees a bit.

Edit: They also lost to Mich.St in 2000 in the finals.

Re-read what I said.

All of Florida’s success has been from Kruger onward.

Alabama and LSU have had very marginal success, but that’s been for much longer than Florida.

Oh, has it become a reason to split fanbases and bitch at each other?

Granted, I completely get why SEC fans wouldn't give a shit about Texas, OU, Missouri, A&M, etc.... just like I don't give a shit about (insert 10 new teams of the Big 12, including Colorado because I didn't give a shit the first time either).

Not going to stick my nose up to them or anything, it's just hard to care until if/when rivalries are formed by KU and other teams being good at the same time in the same sport.

Nope...just me pointing out something I have stated before.....there are still factions within the old SEC that see all the additions as a subtraction.

That graphic is wild!

Saw something yesterday that said more than 800 players or something like that have already entered the transfer portal since the end of the season. Which I believe was a 250%-ish increase from just last year. Would be an absolute nightmare being a coach and hoping for any continuity these days in college ball.

Minnesota has turned their team over each of the last 2-3 seasons. Part of the reason they are not good. It got the coach fired.

NIL is killing college sports. The have and have nots.

Michigan freshman guard Justin Pippen has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on its opening spring entry period, Travis Branham of 247Sports reported on Monday morning.

Pippen has already left the team and will not travel with them to Atlanta as well, Branham reported.

The Chatsworth (CA) native is the son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen and was heralded as an excellent late add to the 2024 recruiting class by Dusty May after his hiring. Pippen saw ample time on the floor throughout the season before a concussion landed him on the bench in the Big Ten Tournament. He was unable to play in either of the Wolverines' first two games of the NCAA Tournament.

I heard someone say that having the transfer portal open on the Monday after the first weekend of the tourney was like NFL free agency beginning the day after Wild Card weekend. It's crazy - and it's also why my "give a ****" meter for college basketball has gone to zero. That and having to watch Harris, Dickinson, and Adams attempt to play basketball the last 2 years.

Big deal, at least he puts it out there. He knows the game, and is right a lot more often than he's wrong. And to be honest, it was more like he was ****ing with you, more than it was with him trying to be right.

And you really didn't put anything out there. All season long you played the "injury card" and once the Dance started, you said that you were playing with "house money" after round 1. In other words, you've given yourself an "out" all year.

FWIW, I thought Kentucky wouln't make it to the Sweet 16 either, until I saw the matchup. Once I saw they drew illinois, I knew Kentucky's athleticism could easily win that game. It was all about the matchup.

Having said that, Ive said all year that my COOGS were a Final 4 team. Here's hoping they beat Purdue and then get to face Kentucky to get there. May the better team win!

Very true. UK playing to its seed against a bad Troy team and a struggling Illinois team doesn't really prove anything either. Now we get into the real competition and real contenders and will see what they are truly made of (which, I expect, will not be very much).

What would you reasonably expect from a coach year 1 that built an entire roster off of transfers, only bringing 1 player from his previous spot and a recruit who hadn’t played in 2 years because he was on a Mormon mission, with substantial injuries to PG?

I said before the season, during non-conference play, and conference play that the expectation should have been to win at least 1 tournament game and they did.

KCC calling a team a fraud when no one had any expectations for them is like dividing by 0.

I think Houston is the second best team in the country currently but is the only 1 seed that doesn’t scare me due the offense not being a threat to go off out of nowhere like Florida or Auburn and doesn’t have a guy like Flagg. Similar to why I think Kentucky matches up well with Tennessee and prefer playing them as a 2 instead of Alabama.

Did not watch it all, but good stuff. It is a joke what is going on in college sports.

No idea if that's a typical Izzo rant or not, but it had everything... starts off slow with some old man rumbling, then he gets going several times. He has the chance to end the conversation several times, but each time the reporter says something, he tangents off of it by saying "well, don't say it like that"... and then does it to himself several times with "and I don't mean...", trying to cut down every little nuance that he's thinking about and nobody asked, while also coming off slightly unhinged.

The few times he really got down to his main points, it was good stuff. LMAO

Bama is going to pull away soon.

I had BYU to the elite 8 and changed it after I heard a couple of the "experts" talking about how good VCU was as an 11 seed. Should have just gone with my original random BS picks.

So--with the new large conference structure, it seems like a lot of schools in the same conference meeting up early in the tourney.

Is it my imagination or true?

Bama has hit 12 3's and there is 4 mins left in the 1st.

On pace for 25 3's.

Florida is going to win it all.

Still Houston. But over Florida in the final.
