He went to 3 super bowls, but that kind of luck is rare, wouldn't you say?

A burner, we need.

TG = Welker in that he will always make the big catch when needed.

Charles = Faulk in that he is a good receiver out of the backfield and a nice change of pace back.

TJ Housh would fill the Welker spot, but I do agree TG would also I think.
Devry Henderson is about the only FA WR that really fits the burner description off the top of my head. there are a couple of rookies but not worth the #3. #10-15 maybe. only problem with the burner/"deep threat" aspect is our line giving Cassel time to wait for it to get down field.

Charles "could be" the Faulk role.

He watched him gain his first NFL experience. If he honestly believes that he's our best option at quarterback based on his evaluation of Stafford and Sanchez, we have absolutely no reason to doubt his reasoning or decision. Plus, Pioli may not be completely out of the quarterback market yet.

FAX

Yes. And it also says a lot that Pioli drafted many, many QBs in New England when he was with the Patriots, but he stuck with Cassel after all this time. So not only does it speak wonders that Pioli wanted to bring him into Kansas City, it also says a lot that after all these years he kept Cassel as brady's backup.

Half of my prediction has come true.

Now we have to trade with the Eagles for both their number ones plus number twos and threes either this year or next.

Housh and Welker are two very different receivers. Housh is more of a possession receiver and will become even moreso given that he's getting older. Welker is a short, speedy receiver who can get a ton of YAC because he's very difficult to tackle.

I'd almost be willing to take less than market value to get out of that pick, that's how bad of a bind I think we're in if we're stuck there.

Raji would probably be my pick, provided he's smarter than Vince Young - and even then, it's terrible value.

Probably not

How much you want to bet that Scott Pioli chooses a QB in rounds 5-7? I love this guy. Keep the talent pipeline flowing after the roster enema is complete.

TG is not 'the Welker' in the system. Welker is a player who can dominate from the slot. TG is a top quality player, but he's not Welker. I mean no disrespect with that, by the way. Randy Moss isn't Wes Welker, either. It's just a different skill set.

As for Charles, he'll need to be able to pick up the blitz, every time, and he'll need to be able to run draws for 5+ yards at a clip.

Charles was pretty good in pass protection, esp for a rookie. LJ could learn a thing (or three) from Charles in that regard.

Charles averaged 4.2ypc last season rushing the ball, and 10.1ypr cacthing it out of the backfield. Solid numbers.

WRT Welker, he is the guy who converts for NE, with Moss as the big play man. TG is kind of a hybrid of those two things. Plus TG makes a butt load of receptions, not unlike Welker.

What we need is that burner. Maclin would be a great asset.

jjchieffan 02-28-2009 02:56 PM

I am uneasy about this trade, but I trust Piolis judgment over Hamas and Mecca and the others who are upset about this trade. If any GM in this league would have a fix on if Cassel is the real deal, or just a one year wonder it would be Pioli. After all, he has seen him much more than anyone else out there. Any KIAS who think they have a better assessment of Cassel than Pioli is just an arrogant dumbass.

Exactly. People here were using YAC as a reason to bash Cassel in earlier threads, but the YAC was so good because Welker has that ability.

Those little waterbugs are a bitch to catch.

Fritz88 02-28-2009 02:58 PM

I will wait and see. I wanted TT to do it this year. But if this was done for only a 2ed rounder. I think Pioli is a genius.

RINGLEADER 02-28-2009 03:00 PM

FWIW I wouldn't have traded the 34 pick for the Cassel that played in the first half of last season. But most certainly would trade for the Cassel of the second half.

Now let's get another stud OT, a real fullback, and pick up a quality guard and receiver in FA and we're good to go.
