The moment someone is dead if you set their body down even for a few seconds the dogs can alert to the scent on that spot with an extremly high degree of accuracy. Even after a hit, the first dog is taken away, a second dog with a different handler is brought in to verify it.

Fluid leaks out of any orifice and on any of those spots there could also be the presence of larva from coffin flies. The flies can be present in any/all environments.

I seen this one movie where someone called on the cell phone and another person, that picked up the phone and were transferred way far away into a comfortable chair.

The catch was the person that picked up the phone then had a big needle stuck in their neck.

The police are no longer actively searching for the child. This would lead me to believe they have some knowledge of the child's demise.
