All the same, the notion that he dinked away 5 yards at a time is BS. |

This is not a bad Pittsburgh D. They will be tough for other QB's to play against this year. Just wait until they get after Cassel... |

Well I don't disagree. It was still poor defense by Pittsburgh. Manning even said in the press conference that was only designed to get 8 or 9 yards. I don't think he dinked and dunked but I stand by what I said. Somebody is going to have to test him and play tighter and make him prove he can throw a 50 yard bomb to Thomas down the sideline. If not, all this soft defense we saw tonight was pointless. He is going to Rich Gannon his way through the AFC.

PIT was missing a few key players ... the refs sucked with missed calls on both sides ... Denver's defense played much better than I anticipated. Those are my 3 big keys from the game. I wasn't 'shocked' with how the offense moved with PM, I was pleasantly surprised that everything looked good. There will be more tests soon ... this thing is far from a finished product, but it's nice to see MULTIPLE weapons being used on offense.
I'd almost forgotten what it was like to have a non-vertically challenged QB. Bring on the Falcons. |
Stuff that worries me about the season after watching this game..... (1) Manning had 10 minutes fewer than Rape did to ply his trade. That's not going to happen every game. (2) Manning would scope out what the defense was going to do & then change the play. Steelers would shift out of the look, Manning would change the play. Nobody is going to fool the guy.

I can't believe the announcers were taking about Haley working with Ben to look to the check down more if things go wrong like that's a good thing. Ben's best attribute above most all others is creating on a broken down play.

The defense bent often and I think there's room for improvement, strong TE's will devour them though - similar to last year. Good thing guys like Gonzo, Gronk, Hernandez, Daniels are on the calender soon. :banghead: Overall - it was a pretty strong game, considering the slow start. |
Mays is absolute garbage in coverage. The other LBers are too small to cover big fast TEs. Woodyard played ok but Booking actually started the game, until he got hurt of course. It's not good when you've got an ancient LBer starting because your young guys can't get the job done. Broncos will be drafting another LBer in the first round unless Irving actually steps up and makes in impact. DJ Williams is out for the first 6 games and it will take him another 2-3 games to get back into game shape.
I'm thinking Trevathan will be getting some serious PT sooner rather than later. Broncos basically run a 5-2 defense because Miller is almost always on the los. That means Mays and either Woodyard or Trevathan are the other LBers behind the los. I'd still like to see the Broncos pull Mays out and put Irving in at MLB and have Irving, Woodyard and Miller be the starting LBers, but what the hell do I know? |
