The fan support was much more evenly split than I expected.

Rory has been pretty popular for a long time. He has a swashbuckling style of play, similar to Phil Mickelson or Arnold Palmer or Seve Ballesteros. Roller coaster of heroic shots and tragically bad shots. This entire tournament was full of roller coaster moments for McIlroy and his fans.

It would be funny if Rory signs with LIV.

Sort of like Hulk Hogan turning heel. In fact, he should have done that during the trophy presentation yesterday. Ripped off his shirt to reveal a LIV shirt underneath.

I was flipping thru the channels a couple weekends ago looking for something to watch and I happened to hit the CW right as Mark Leishman was teeing off.

I forgot that dude even existed.

Oh well, at least he got paid.

Yeah I like Rory. Can't help it.

Justin Rose does a great interview but he's kind of a whiney entitled guy on the course. Hes always telling people to be quiet and that they are too loud. Backs off alot and scoffs if he thinks it is too loud. I dunno not the worst but seems like a douche.

You want to teach someone how to hit a golf ball just tell them turn their shoulders like Rory.

An Euro golfer I enjoyed was Ian Woosnam.

Got to meet Ian Woosnam at one of the tournaments. Great guy and gracious to all the young fans. He gave away signed balls and gloves on EVERY hole to kids.

I really need to buy a new set of Irons. Way back in the day I was a Hogan guy. I loved me a set of Ben Hogan Apex Irons. They were the bomb! When Hogan went to AMF they went to shit. So from there I went with the best Iron maker on the planet and got me a set of MP14s. What a great blade! I shot my best rounds of golf with those Irons. The wedge played a lot like a Ben Hogan Equalizer. Best PW ever...I have a set of MP15s right now that are 10+ years old. I need a new set of Irons!

I think I'll probably go with a another set of Mizunos. I find the 245s intriguing. I know a great Club Fitter and he always gives me a decent deal. At 63/64 I want a great looking blade that I can work the ball with but I need distance. Father time is catching up!

I remember getting my first really cool golf bag. A Ben Hogan Sun Jet. All the cool guys that were older than me carried a Sun Jet. I still have that Bag.

I had Hogan irons and woods back in the late 70's. The irons were tiny blades and the woods had clear plastic on the club face. Couldn't hit the irons worth a shit. My Dad got them from someone who owed him money. I also had a giant green and white Rodney Dangerfield golf bag that weighed 100 pounds that came with the clubs. They were my second set.

My first set of clubs were Spalding Eagle irons 3,5,7,9 PW Driver and 3 Wood and putter. No even clubs or sandwedge.

My first golf bag was a cloth bag with a steel ring at the top, no separation for any clubs. The clubs fell out of the bag all the time.

I think we bought them at Kmart.

My first golf shoes were Puma gold suede sneakers. I slipped and slid all over.

I've come a long way since then.....

My first set of irons I pulled out of the pump house. Spalding Gene The Machine Littlers. Had nice slick leather wrap grips and if you thinned one on a cold day if felt like you were struck by lightning right in the hands. Woods were assorted but for a time I played with Robert Trent Jones JRs. Leather grips with a reminder. That's a little flat spot on the butt end of the grip to assisted with the placement of your left hand. A 1wood, 2 1/2 wood, 3 1/2 wood, 4 1/2 wood. They were persimmon with pheasant wrap twine. They were really cool. I have the 9 iron from the Littlers and one of those fairway woods.

I grew up next to a little public course here in Springfield and I was a fence jumper. I was explaining to the Head Pro where I play now just why I never make a tee time. I didn't ever need one growing up because I always started on number 12!

One of my best friends, who is scratch, had leather wrapped clubs. They were fun to use until it rained.

neech 04-20-2025 03:25 PM

Thomas is playing very well today.

neech 04-20-2025 03:53 PM

Novak should’ve got that in for the win.

scho63 04-20-2025 04:48 PM

My buddy bets golf nearly every week on 5-8 guys between $3-$20 a player. He always bets Spieth and Thomas plus a couple of hot players and a few long shots. Spends about $100 and wins often.

This week he took a break as he was on a losing streak and of course his normal weekly bet wins finally. :D

Gamblers dilemma.....

I swore by Mizunos and the forged feel but in the whole Father Time theme, I needed a bit more distance and a smidge of forgiveness. Hit the P790s great but about 1 out of 10 shots would fly 15 yards further than intended. Without detailing the long journey (involved trying various Mizuno, Ping, and Titleist irons) I ended up with Srixons. Hit the ZX7 well but the ZX5 feels like a cheat code. I think the V-sole turf interaction is unbeatable. I would recommend trying them out if you're in the market for new irons. Not as sexy as some of the bigger names, but they have hooked me.

Now, if I could only find my driver swing again ....
