Because he is going to pinch hit next and tie the game?

It worked out well, but with a fast runner on first you are better pinch hitting the guy with gap and home run power. The odds of him tying the game or giving them the lead is higher.

Pinch hitting Adams was going for it. Descalso was the safe play, because it's a 1-1 switch of guys playing short.

You're contradicting yourself.

O.city 08-19-2013 09:11 PM

Good to see, but he mismanaged the **** outta that

I was addressing burning freese and not worrying about extra innings, not the descalso/adams decision.

Understood, but you can't roll your eyes at holding off Adams while also advocating for Freese. You can't have it both ways.

Come from behind in the 8th inning on the road is pretty rare for us...............then to score 4 runs with 2 outs......thats definitely rare air for us this year.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-20-2013 07:08 PM

See how easy it is to score runs when you hit homers?

BigRedChief 08-20-2013 07:18 PM

Here comes Lynn's meltdown

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-20-2013 07:20 PM

Elevate more fastballs, you dumb ****.

O.city 08-20-2013 07:22 PM

Lynn was sailing along, then we score and he lets down.

I've seen it a hundred times

Marcellus 08-20-2013 07:22 PM

This is so unpredictable.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-20-2013 07:23 PM

Bad pitching and bad luck is an awful combo.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-20-2013 07:24 PM

Seriously, dude, they are giving up an out, just toss it underhanded up there.

O.city 08-20-2013 07:27 PM

When was the last Lynn start that didn't end in a meltdown?

Frazod 08-20-2013 07:28 PM

I don't even want to watch games he pitches at this point. Lynnderella strikes again.

:shake:

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-20-2013 07:32 PM

I like how Lynn just totally quit in that AB. He looked much more interested in pouting in the dugout than trying to help his team.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-20-2013 07:34 PM

How does Holiday miss so many letter-high 90 mph fastballs? Lohse has grooved him every AB and he hasn't hit one of them hard.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-20-2013 07:50 PM

Descalso's range is just so, so horrible.

BigRedChief 08-20-2013 07:52 PM

Last 2 games for Wong........4 hits and 3 steals.

5 hits :harumph:

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-20-2013 09:03 PM

This zone went from a shoebox to a Dumpster.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-20-2013 09:06 PM

Holliday's rocket jump caught by Aoki and Wong's screamer to Henderson pretty much explain this night.

kcpasco 08-20-2013 09:11 PM

Yay Westbrook on the mound tomorrow.
Lets see if he can make it out of the first without giving up 5 runs.

Supposedly his last shot. I think its better for us in the long run if he gives up 5 runs.

It's a win-win. The win-win-win would be for him to get his taint handed to him in a game we still manage to pull out.

Working on it he gave up 3 in the 3rd but we scored 7 in the 2nd so he has a cushion.

epitome1170 08-21-2013 02:00 PM

He has now given up 5 in 4 2/3 with runners on 1st and 2nd... Matheny finally gave him the hook.

Matheny is partial shit with an opportunity to get better, he is still somewhat of a noob at his job.

Westbrook is just plain shit. I cant figure out why they extended him.

That got a little scary. They've looked a little bit better this past week but it was the Cubs and Brewers. Big series coming up against those Hotlanta Braves.

As a positive note, at least we don't have to see Westbrook pitch against the Braves and we will have our top 3 SP's going this weekend.

epitome1170 08-22-2013 06:00 AM

Wow

Westbrook on his start:

"Not exactly what I wanted, but a step in the right direction for me, I guess."

How in the hell is that a step in the right direction? He gave up 4 earned runs in 4 2/3!

Should have been 5 ER since they gave him an error on a play where he couldn't make a backhand play that he might make one out of ten times.

I don't expect him to go to the pen because of his issues of taking so long to warm up. They might come up with some medical reason to put him on the DL, but I expect a release.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-22-2013 08:28 AM

I highly doubt they release him. Given Kelly's propensity for only making two good passes through the lineup, Lynn's for spontaneous combustion, and Shelby's for racking up very high pitch counts, Westbrook as the long man is the most likely course of action for the Cardinals.

26 earned runs in his last 5 games.

Yeah you are on the right track.

BigRedChief 08-22-2013 05:46 PM

Is anyone else scratching their head over the handling of Molina's knee? He plays a day game after a night game, against the Brewers? But sits out tonight against the stronger Braves? Matheny says Molina says he's good to go, he plays? When is Molina ever going to say I want or have to sit out a game?

Does anyone else think that Molina played to give westbrook a better chance?

O.city 08-22-2013 06:18 PM

Or maybe he wanted to win the series and this begins a 4 game set where he can get him a break?

#Cardinals GM Mozeliak acknowledges that the Molina Plan has been "deviated" from in the past week ...

"I think the plan we’ve deviated from, obviously," Mozeliak said, referencing the outline the team, its medical staff, and the player had discussed when Yadier Molina came off the disabled list. "I think with a player like him he’s obviously going to have some say in whether he can go or not. We welcome that type of feedback. The past few days have gone fine for him. From a medical standpoint, I don’t see any restrictions. I think the answer really is you have to have a lot of trust in that player. Not everybody gets the opportunity to weigh in like that. The ones you are allowing to have some say in that, you have to really have a lot of trust and believe that they are going to give you the right answer. We have had other players in the past who get to this level. Yadi is deserving of that. A player of his ilk you want to give every chance."

****ing stupid as hell to play him yesterday given that it was the Brewers and we have four against the Braves...not to mention it was a goddamned day game after a night game.

Third time through the lineup...His offspeed stuff just isn't good enough to survive more than two passes.

Kozma walked w/ one out. Kelly has given up seven hits and a gopher ball and he left him in to bunt, thus giving the team no wiggle room. It worked out b/c Carpenter, Beltran, and Holliday hit B2B2B doubles, but it was still a dumbshit decision. He should have called on a pinch hitter in that situation.

It's additionally troubling because he's running Kelly back out there.

Simply Red 08-22-2013 08:07 PM

O.city 08-22-2013 08:11 PM

Thats what I figured you were talking about.

If Kelly could improve his breaking pitch to an average level, I think his fastball and change would be good enough pitches.

His change actually rates as slightly above average, which surprises. Me. You're right that the slider needs definite improvement, though.

Right now he's somewhat like Wacha, save that his fastball is better but his changeup isn't nearly as good. The difference is that Wacha's curve will probably end up being a solid pitch, which is why he'll likely settle in as a fringe #2/solid #3.

It's worse this year than in years past. I've heard some speculation that it may be related to the construction of the Ballpark Village across the street.

Yep.

I'm not insinuating that he'll ever be more than he will be, IMO, he's a ceiling #3 SP'er.

Wacha's ceiling might be a little higher than that, like you said, but I'm becoming a bigger and bigger Joe Kelly fan with each start he makes.

It's just not our guys. The other teams seems to really put good wood on a ball and it dies at the track.

They supposedly did wind engineering studies done and concluded that it wouldn't effect the ballpark. Not looking good when the damn thing isn't even finished yet.
