I didn't say that. Was mentioned by Rany Jazerli on the radio this morning.

You didn't tag everything with #'s. He doesn't understand.

Wow only Royal fans would think that.

Why do you have to be a raging douchebag in this thread?

The O's fluky success has gone to your head.

Nothing to do with the O's, Just saying that the radio guy is crazy if he thinks the royals could get Price for Hosmer.

Thats what Buster Olney thought as well.

Eric Hosmer (gets it most of the way there on his own) +
Jason Adam (type/level) + Robinson Yambati/Sugar Ray Marimon type

I would do that trade. It would be hard to give up Hos, but worth it...

I love Hosmer, but David Price is controlled almost as long (FA in 2016 vs. FA in 2017). There's also the possibility of negotiating an extension that buys out a few FA years in return for more up front.

Hosmer did not get a full year of service time in 2011. He's not a free agent until 2018, so we're talking 2 extra years of control. Those 2 extra years add value to Hosmer compared to David Price, its just a shame he struggled this season.

It's not a straight-up trade. That would be silly. It would include at least two lower-level prospects of quality grade (one B and one C+) and possibly some more.

Just listened to the podcast. Rany (who is not just a radio guy - he's got ties to Baseball Prospectus, good contacts in the industry, does a show with Joe Sheehan and writes for Grantland) mentioned Eric Hosmer as the main starting point ("gets you most of the way there"). That means you're not sacrificing Myers or Odorizzi in the deal.

If it took Hosmer, Ventura and Adam, that's still something the Royals look at. The Royals have enough depth to up the price from the starting point Rany mentioned (and I started the discussion on).

Perception of Hosmer in the industry is still that he's going to be a star. His stock with baseball people is not nearly as downtrodden as stock with fans. 5 years of control of Hosmer (who will be cheap for at least two of them) vs. three years of expensive control for Price is a big value for the Rays.

It's a deal that makes quite a bit of sense for both sides.

Especially with their ability to churn out pitchers, but struggle for offense.

Of course, had we not swept the White Sox the final weekend that draft year, Price would already be in a Royals uniform and Moose would be elsewhere.

Dude if the Rays did put Price on the Market (which they wont) Every team in MLB will be in on him which means someone is gonna OVERPAY BIG TIME. Now i could see a Hosmer for Shields trade in the Off season.

And?

Royals have more chips than most teams.

What point are you trying to argue?

He has no idea. He's an O's fan on a Playoff high. I can only imagine the euphoria he must be experiencing right now. We must try and forgive his babbling idiocy.

Price going on the market is because he's about get expensive as hell. The Rays can't afford (apparently) to keep him. It is actually cheaper for them to keep Shields than to keep Price.

Yes, every team in MLB will be interested in him. But not every team in MLB has a first-baseball as highly regarded as Eric Hosmer with five years of control remaining on his contract to start the negotiations with. Hosmer is also incredibly cost-effective over that time frame, which is attractive to the Rays.

This is the Rays' area of greatest need, and they have NO help on the way any time soon.

That's why the deal makes sense.

Hosmer for Shields is the type of deal that gets General Managers fired. Won't happen, and will not happen. The only way Hosmer, Moustakas or Myers would be involved in a trade is for a legitimate TOR starter with at least 3 years of control.

Shields doesn't fit the bill.

Demonpenz 09-25-2012 03:08 PM

Signing Yuni twice is the kind of thing that gets a GM fired
