I've never seen them practice; I can't speak to that side. What I can tell you is that in theory Haith, like all coaches, wants his team to protect the ball, and from the style of the teams he's constructed and recruited he wants to play inside out.
Well, what do we have? A PG with the theoretical ability to control a team who doesn't and won't do it. Guards who constantly drive into trouble or throw up contested jumpers early in the shot clock. Forwards who get beaten on the box out on FTs at least twice every three games.
Those things don't happen with well coached teams.
A coach once told me: never make the million dollar pass or take the million dollar shot when the $2 pass or shot will do.
