He still has a lot of growing to do. Pressey also looks pretty terrible out there. Our deep back-court is suddenly looking pretty wobbly. I almost wonder if they shouldn't start playing English at the 2 more with Denmon at the 1, with Safford, Bowers and Ratliffe playing the 3, 4 and 5. We seem a guard short right now. Phil Pressey's trying too hard to be that guy, but I still think Matt Pressey could be that guy. |
Sonofabitch! That game was crazy. I know we all (Mizzou fans) would have liked to see an easy win, but damn... games like that are what makes college basketball so much fun.
Thank God Denmon came around in the 2nd half. How clutch is that kid? Gonna be a fun season. I hope to live through it. |
Denmon has a lot of Zaire Taylor in him.
He's a streak shooter with occasional defensive lapses, but he sure doesn't shy away from the moment. Dixon can't be another Tiller, he's not strong enough, but he can still be a very good defensive player in his own right if he makes a commitment to it. He's much quicker than Tiller, so he makes up for Tiller's length by getting there a step sooner. And while he's not as strong, he should be able to beat guys to their spot on the floor and impede them just as well. He needs to play with the same effort and develop that same sense of the floor. Right now he's just never where he's supposed to be when he's supposed to be there. |

This is a win that will look better at the end of the season than it does now. Not a great game by Mizzou by any means, but I'll take it.

Mizzou won't be the same team towards the end of the year

Unfortunately, I think it was the same guy that was bound and determined that the name "Ratliffe" has a "C" in it. |

Good win, but man, we are really struggling right now.
On offense, it's basically everyone standing around and waiting for Denmon to do something. English and Bowers have been very disappointing, and I'm not impressed with Ratliffe's low post game. The movement and passing has been poor. On defense, we're giving up way too many easy baskets and making stupid fouls. Our perimeter defense was terrible last night - gave up way too many open looks when they drove and kicked it out. You don't need to collapse on the 5'10" white dude driving the lane, he's going nowhere. We're still a tourney team, but we're going to need to improve on both ends to win more than 9 or 10 games in the Big 12. |
