Probably close to 10 years since it moved. Been shut down for 3-4.

SuperCenter Walmart and the other chains that have moved in have done what they do: Kill small local operations. Wheel-Inn was a victim of that once it was no longer on the corner.

That's a sad deal. Original owners were forced out of that location because of an eminent domain claim (state was going to expand the intersection of 50/Broadway and HWY 65.

Owners sold it to a long-time employee, who moved it south on 65.

State never changed the intersection (there's a Verizon store there now, I think). New location never got on the map for lake travelers. Restaurant closed.

It's rough driving through old Sedalia now. Makes me really feel old.

Pretty sure they changed the intersection. The Verizon store is farther back in the lot.

That was one helluva restaurant. My nephew would always take me there when I visited him.

Not exactly a restaurant of yesteryear, yet.

But in keeping with the tenor of the discussion, Iron Barley is moving out of the city into rural JeffCo. I'm sure it will still be awesome, but now it's a bit of a slog to go.

They had this little guy in the back grilling burgers on their sh*tting grill. People would line up at lunch time to get their amazing burgers to go. In the early 80's some Ahole bought the place and tore it down to build a bigger one. It lasted about 6 months be it went belly up.

I believe I only experienced the new place because there were definitely a few tables, maybe 6 or 8. It was pretty good even then. No one I know except the friend I ate there with ever remembers it. I was beginning to think I made it up or something.

The building for the one on Blue Ridge has been a million different things, and is now a Payday Loan.

Remember right across the highway when Truman Corners had one of the few Smorgasbords anyone had ever heard of. So 'exotic' a concept that the restaurant was merely named 'Smorgasbord?' [EDIT: now that I think, it also incorporated 'Svedenhaus' into it's nameplate]

Heh, I remember that place. I don't recall ever eating there though. Only later when it became Harry T's.

Yep. The smorgasbord, remember it but don't remember eating there. I do also remember the Spaghetti Spot right behind it (or somewhere nearby). There was an ice cream place there too.

Grew up a little further south, so Zardas on down 71 was THE ice cream spot for us.

Cherry Walnut in a sugar cone, FTW!!

There used to be a tiny little cafe in Warrensburg called "Corner Cafe." Standard cafe fare, but really, really good. Excellent breakfasts, and their burgers were fantastic. They closed sometime in the early 2000s.

The best thing, though, was their prices were from yesteryear. You could get a double burger, fries, and a drink for less than $4. A full breakfast would run you like $3. Probably why they eventually closed. But damn do I miss that place.
