That might just about do it. Czech Rep. scored also.

DaFace 02-19-2014 01:08 PM

Damn...so close. :)

nice shot

Sandis Ozolinsh still plays?? WOW!

CaliforniaChief 02-19-2014 01:18 PM

empty net for the Latvians.

DaFace 02-19-2014 01:28 PM

Well, that'll do it. I was pulling for Latvia, but that would've been devastating for Canada.

Given the structure, and after watching today's games, I'll predict:

G - USA
S - Finland
B - Sweden

Sorry, Canada. You kind of looked like shit today.

Not unreasonable. But how much was Canada playing poorly vs. Latvia's goalie playing out of his mind?

I feel like Ashley Wagner and Gracie Gold should 69 at some point. It would definitely renew my interest in figure skating.

KC_Connection 02-19-2014 01:40 PM

Much closer than you'd like, but Canada dominated play in that game despite the score. They may have to be the first team to stop the US offense, though, as their forwards just aren't scoring to this point in the tournament.

Canada will probably go in as slight favorites in the SFs, but it's a 50/50 game for me.

Suck it, Putin.

I feel a little bad that Varly had a rough game, but it's not like he had any offense (or defense for that matter) to help him out.

Yeah, sucks for Varlamov, but Russia got frustrated and completely got away from any kind of team game. The 4 icings at the end of the game perfectly summed it up, trying for the big play over getting the goalie pulled and working for a goal.

Hmm, I thought Canada looked pretty damn good at times... not that they were incredibly impressive before, but it's the best I've seen them up to this point. It easily could have been 5-1 with the number of great chances they had. Latvia was pretty impressive throughout the tournament, considering they don't have the scorers to be a serious threat.

I wasn't so sure about Canada, but I think it'll be the best game of the tournament Friday, even if the US has clearly been the better team overall.

The best 'oh by the way' of the day.... Yzerman drafted Gudļevskis (Latvia's goalie) last year for TB.

Bearcat 02-20-2014 08:45 AM

Tavares is done, torn MCL... Canada's down to like 10 centers now. :(

Why Not? 02-20-2014 09:07 AM

I'm weirdly not that worried about this game. I think the U S has really come together and is playing with tons of momentum.
