Oh he will get paid huge money, it just won’t be on the cap. Sammy Watkins cap hit this year is $7.8 million which is low, but he received a $21 million signing bonus.

That’s what teams do now. A lot of guaranteed money in year 1 so players can have a low first year cap hit. Team gets cap relief early and the player gets a shit load of guaranteed money up front.

Win/win for both sides

Yeah, but it's not always good for the team in the long run if the player goes the way Houston or Berry has after their deal.

If you can have the space to pay them their money up front and take the hit, it's the way to go.

And I think you'll start to see that more with the Chiefs once we get some of these contracts off the books.

Yeah, Tyreek is gonna wanna get a good payday.

It'll be tough to keep both, but the hope at that point is that Mahomes is developed and you can have him carry the offense somewhat with new young WR's.

Tyreek is one of those generational players who have to re-sign

Hitchens also cracked the list:

Why don't you return to your shit thread where we are discussing just how pathetic Denver's roster is...

Yeah good point. I think we might see a shift in contracts. Cousins and Watkins got 3 year deals which also seems like a win/win for both sides.

If the player flops, you don’t have them for 5 years and 2nd year contracts players can get another big payday instead of just one due to a shorter contract.

Yeah, I def like the short deals better for both sides.

Unless its for a QB but Cousins is playing that smart.

Albert Wilson caught 10 balls on 10 attempts from Mahomes while only playing 42% of the snaps against Denver. For 148 yards.

The same Wilson played 100% of the snaps against the Titans. 4 targets. 2 catches. With Smith. Smith couldn't find anyone to throw to without Kelce on the field.

We have seen clips of Watkins open. Mahomes will find him.

KC didn't have much trouble getting guys open. Albert Wilson actually led the NFL in separation last year. Hill was 5th.

Note that second link. KC's leads by 0.48 yards over the #2 team.

The difference between #2 and #30 is 0.48 yards.

Guys were seriously open last year.

Which is why I noted that I thought we might, gulp, miss Wilson a bit this year. Patrick had nice chemistry with him in the Denver game. I hope that transfers to Watkins this season.

How much of that is due to the known "Alex will not throw a guy open" narrative? This is not just about how open they are at the time of the throw but the fact that Alex tended to avoid trying to fit the ball into a smaller window.

Mahomes had great chemistry with Robinson and Kemp and Harris and Dieter and every single pass catcher he plays with.

Because he’s ****ing awesome.

The fact that Wilson ever had a role greater than "practice squad receiver" should tell us just how bad the receiver position has been over recent years. Ditto for Robinson.

I tend to agree, but it was a slight worry, given the sheer volume of passes caught.

Lol this is ridiculous. Wilson is much better than a practice squad WR.
