Can't say it's terrible. I don't know how good Smith will actually be, but I still feel it's a trade that doesn't make any difference either way. Best case scenario is Maxwell could be a darkhorse. It'd be a dream, but would be pretty cool if he developed into a 20 HR, .340 OBP every day player.

Seriously though, of all teams to give up a middle of the order bat... Maybe we should start a whining over the Myers/Shields trade thread because I need ****ing therapy to get over it, and that may just do the trick but I digress. |

I understand your consternation now. Suddenly this trade makes a lot less sense to me. Honestly, when I thought he was 25 I figured you guys were getting wound up over nothing. But you're right, he'll be 30 next year and still sucks at getting on base. Congrats - you fellas just gave up a potential 4th starter for Rick Ankiel. I'm not sure that was a good idea... |

It's funny how we were all riding high on this winning streak, and then all of the wind was suddenly taken out of our sails when we realized that we really haven't gained much ground in the division and we traded for Justin Maxwell.

Maxwell is gonna be Jose Bautista, book it!

This is nothing to get excited about, but its not a bad guy to add to the team. I don't see how its going to hurt having him when Cain inevitably hits the DL

He got released because he walked 10 batters in 19 innings at AAA and put up a WHIP of 1.5. That's way too many baserunners and his upside at 32 yrs old is gone. Zambrano's minor league peripheral numbers look a lot like Jeremy Bonderman's did. And as soon as Bonderman faced big league hitters, he got his head handed to him. The Phillies aren't dumb, they know the same thing will happen to Zambrano and at this point he's just a clog in the AAA pipeline. |
Maybe we'll make a trade (through waivers) further down the line if we continue winning?
