YOu know....while enjoying re-reading this thread....I had to answer, what seems to me as, the obvious answers to the question posted above...

Because Collins:

A) Hit the big 3 pointer to cut the lead in the home-stretch
B) Stole the in-bounds pass
C) penetrated enough to get Chalmers a decent look at a 3

If Arthur doesnt hit his huge shot (which at the time, I screamed "NOOOOO", before it actually went it)......no national championship.
